AFC Bournemouth vs Leicester - Free Betting Tips

Bournemouth
Leicester City

Two sides who could achieve European qualification, and could equally be drawn into a relegation battle, face off at the Vitality Stadium this weekend in the Premier League. Eddie Howe’s Bournemouth side face a Leicester team who welcome back star striker Jamie Vardy from suspension, and who gave Liverpool something of a scare last time out. No doubt the AFC Bournemouth vs Leicester betting tips will lean towards the home side, but this match should be competitive from start to finish.

Bournemouth’s speed in attack makes them a threat from the first minute of any game, and a bet worth taking here is 138.com’s 5/6 odds on them scoring the opening goal – given Leicester’s continuing travails in defence, it’s fair to say the visitors are vulnerable. However, given the attacking riches on the blue side here, we feel that perhaps the AFC Bournemouth vs Leicester best odds of the weekend are at William Hill, who have 12/5 on the draw. Leicester’s stubbornness against sides outside the Premier League elite makes that a very interesting selection. If you want more of a punt, look at Coral’s 8/1 on the game being a draw with more than 3.5 goals. It’s hard to predict a 2-2 or 3-3 game, but if ever there was a time to do so, this game between sides with better attacking than defensive setups would be it.

AFC Bournemouth vs Leicester Betting Tips: Form Guide

Bournemouth’s Strong Start Hits A Stumble

At this stage of last season, Bournemouth were in the bottom three with zero points, and being heavily backed for relegation. Howe’s undoubted talent as a young manager was for the first time being subjected to criticism, but over the course of the rest of the season, he steadied the ship. So to be sitting sixth on seven points right now marks a definite improvement. Indeed, the Cherries won their first two games, seeing off Cardiff with a simple 2-0 win before visiting West Ham and coming from behind to secure a 2-1 victory through an excellent Callum Wilson goal and a Steve Cook winner.

The following game presented some difficulties for Bournemouth, as they fell 2-0 behind to a 10-man Everton side after Richarlison’s sending-off. However, they showed what Iain Dowie would refer to as “bouncebackability” to take a point even after their own Adam Smith had joined the Toffees winger on the naughty step. These powers of recovery were however subjected to a test they would not pass in the next league outing, as Chelsea scored twice in four second-half minutes at Stamford Bridge to doom Howe’s men to their first defeat of the season.

With some solid league performances and a 3-0 win over Milton Keynes Dons in the Carabao Cup, the South Coast side have earned their status as favourites in AFC Bournemouth vs Leicester betting tips for today, but they will know also that they can’t keep falling behind and expecting their attack to get them out of trouble. Eventually, that will cost them in a game they’re expected to win.

Foxes Need A Little More Cunning In Defence

With games against Manchester United and Liverpool among their first four Premier League fixtures, Leicester would have hoped for six points at this stage in the season and been happy with four. They have six, but could really have had more if they weren’t in the habit of gifting goals to sides who are capable of scoring them without such generosity. An opening-night trip to Old Trafford was made into a tougher game than it needed to be, as a soft early penalty gave the hosts an early lead and left an otherwise impressive Foxes side chasing the game.

In their last outing, an avoidable early goal left City trailing at home to Liverpool, and the damage was compounded by gifting Roberto Firmino a free header to send Puel’s men in 2-0 behind at half time. A Ghezzal goal halved the margin, and Leicester could have taken a point from their meeting with the league leaders as they spent most of the final half-hour on the front foot. As the previous game showed when Harry Maguire’s late winner helped turn a 1-0 deficit into a 2-1 win, this is a side that plays all 90 minutes, and if they can stop handing openings to their opposition then they’ll be in very good shape.

As will be noted in most AFC Bournemouth vs Leicester match previews, Jamie Vardy is again available for selection. Given his tendency to score against big sides, he was missed in the Liverpool game after his red card during a 2-0 win over Wolves. One can only imagine that after three games on the sidelines, he’ll be raring to go too.

AFC Bournemouth vs Leicester City Preview: Recent Meetings

The last time Leicester visited the Vitality Stadium was in September of last year, and the sides played out one of the most forgettable games of the season. It ended 0-0, and the best thing that can be said is that the visiting defence stood up well against what was very much a one-way onslaught. Coming shortly before Craig Shakespeare’s sacking, it would be reasonable to say that his charges stole a point on the day.

More recently, the sides met at the King Power Stadium early in Puel’s reign and Josh King opened the scoring for the Cherries from the penalty spot on 35 minutes. The Foxes, in the middle of a poor run of form, made extremely heavy weather of getting back into the game. Eventually, they secured a point through a Riyad Mahrez free-kick in the seventh minute of time added on. They don’t have Mahrez anymore, so they’ll need to find another way of getting out of trouble if they play as badly this weekend.

AFC Bournemouth vs Leicester Prediction: Entertaining Score Draw

This is a game that could easily go either way. As we’ve seen from Bournemouth’s encouraging start to the season, they’re a tough team to put away, their only defeat coming away to Chelsea – the Blues’ 100% record so far shows that the Cherries won’t be the only side who struggle to live with such opposition. Leicester have two losses so far, but they both came against teams that will play Champions League football this season, so they won’t have expected much from those encounters. In seeing off Wolves and Southampton, they’ve shown an inner strength that will make them an awkward opponent for most of the league.

As such, although predicting a draw always feels a little like a cop-out, we can’t think of a more reasonable AFC Bournemouth vs Leicester prediction than these sides sharing the points. With Vardy, Wilson, King, James Maddison and Demarai Gray among others on the field here, both sides have the capacity to score. With what we’ve seen from both in the four games each have played, they’re also more than capable of conceding. They’ll also both be happy with a draw, as it will keep them both in the top half of the table at this early stage in the season; as both were firmly rooted in the bottom section this time last year, that’s an improvement. We’ll predict 2-2 as a final score.
