Arsenal
Liverpool

Having seen a stop to their long, impressive winning streak, Arsenal welcome Liverpool to the Emirates Stadium in the evening kick-off in the hope that their unbeaten run won’t go the same way. Liverpool, who have had their own minor wobbles recently, seem to have stabilised and most Arsenal vs Liverpool betting tips seem to indicate that the visitors are favourites for this game. It’s Arsenal’s first big challenge since the first weeks of the season – can they rise to it?

It’s clear what the bookies think – Arsenal may be unbeaten in eight league games, but with no points gained in teams above them in the league Arsenal start the day as real outsiders for this match. That seems a little harsh – and we’re attracted by Paddy Power’s 11/4 odds on the draw which may be the Arsenal vs Liverpool best odds of the day. If you want to roll the dice a little, and pick the correct score, then we’d go high-scoring rather than low. Genting have 10/1 on a 2-2 game, which would be fantastic to watch and a bet worth winning. Those who want to be a little more careful should instead plump for Mo Salah – regaining some of his old form – to score first or last – he’s 17/10 with William Hill.

Arsenal vs Liverpool Betting Tips: Form Guide

Gunners Spiked By Penalty Woes

After losing their first two games, Arsenal went on a seven-game winning streak that catapulted them into the top four, where they still sit after last weekend’s dropping of points. There are certain odd aspects of this run – for example, not once this season have the Gunners led at half time. They’ve certainly been a team that gets stronger as the game goes on – for forty minutes they were getting the runaround from Leicester City, until a Mesut Ozil-inspired comeback gave them a comfortable 3-1 win.

Emery’s men went into the half-time break losing 1-0 in last week’s visit to Selhurst Park, thanks to a Luka Milivojevic penalty. It took less than the first fifteen minutes of the second half for them to flip the situation and get into a 2-1 lead, Granit Xhaka and the red-hot Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang firing the goals. However, despite opportunities they never really kicked on and Wilfried Zaha, up against a makeshift left-back in Xhaka, won a second penalty, which was again buried by Milivojevic to deny Arsenal an eighth consecutive win in the league.

Gunners fans will be keeping their fingers crossed that the magic has not now worn off, because the visit of Liverpool is the home side’s first game against a title contender since their consecutive losses at home to Manchester City and at Chelsea. Countless Arsenal vs Liverpool match previews have hinted that this is where we will see what the North London side are made of, so they won’t want to fluff their lines here.

Liverpool Ride Out A Tricky Run

October was always going to be a pivotal month in Liverpool’s bid to challenge for the title, with games at Chelsea and then at home to Manchester City. In the former game, they had to ride out a lot of pressure, fell behind, and only secured a point through a late goal from Daniel Sturridge. With the visit of City, it was probably the home side who had the best of things possession and opening-wise, but the game ended 0-0 after Guardiola’s men missed a late penalty. Between those two games, Liverpool met their only defeat so far this season, when a late Lorenzo Insigne goal gave Napoli a win in the Champions League.

Jurgen Klopp will have known he needed a win, any win, after three games without one – it duly arrived with a visit to Huddersfield where a single goal from Salah, 24 minutes in, was enough to secure the three points. Not the best result, but a win nonetheless, and for Liverpool the importance of seeing the Egyptian forward back in the goals was just as important. He would add another two, either side of half-time, as the Reds thrashed Crvena Zvezda 4-0 in the Champions League, and last weekend’s home game saw him score once, and lay on another two as Cardiff City were brushed aside 4-1. Sadio Mane was also on the scoresheet with two in that game.

It looks, then, as though Liverpool are finding some of their early season form again, just in time to face Arsenal. It’s understandable that Arsenal vs Liverpool betting tips for today will favour the visitors, but Arsenal do represent a step up in quality from the Reds’ last few opponents.

Arsenal vs Liverpool Preview: Recent Meetings

The last meeting for these sides fell just before last Christmas, on the 22nd of December. It was played at the Emirates and saw Liverpool lead in the 26th minute through Philippe Coutinho. A second goal arrived, courtesy of Salah, on 52 minutes but seemed to send Arsenal into a frenzy: Alexis Sanchez, Xhaka and Ozil all scoring between the 53rd and 58th minutes of the game to give Arsenal a 3-2 lead. With twenty minutes left, Roberto Firmino picked up an equaliser and the game, though still feisty, saw no further goals before the final whistle.

Arsenal will hope this game can have the same attacking story for them, without the concession of three goals. However, anything would be better than the previous game in which Klopp’s side scored twice in each half to secure a 4-0 win. That came in the opening weeks of last season, which would turn out to be Arsene Wenger’s farewell campaign. How Emery may fare when up against the Reds remains to be seen.

Arsenal vs Liverpool Prediction: Combative High-Scoring Draw

Arsenal have been in such positive form recently that it’s weird to see odds showing they’re outsiders in a home game. That it is against Liverpool, a side that is one of the best in Europe let alone Britain, cushions the shock slightly, but it still feels a little like Arsenal aren’t being seriously. What will it take to get them to that point? Probably a win here.

Although we understand that Liverpool have shown better form over a more sustained spell, it still seems that Arsenal are better than people are giving them credit for, and our Arsenal vs Liverpool prediction for this evening is that the home side will at least pick up a share of the points. They may well get off to a slow start, as has been a habit this season, but they can be confident of coming back in the second half – and with the attacking quality they have in Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette, they should be able to hold their own here.
