Arsenal vs Watford Betting Tips: Form Guide

Gunners In Good Form

Unai Emery’s Arsenal team have found some form in recent weeks, and head into this clash with Watford on the back of four straight Premier League victories. Their last defeat in any competition came on August 18, when they were beaten 3-2 by Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Emery seems to have found his feet in the job now, after joining Arsenal in the close season as a replacement for the iconic Arsene Wenger.

In midweek, the Gunners swept aside Championship outfit Brentford in the League Cup, winning 3-1. Emery has told the press that he was particularly pleased with the performance of England forward Danny Welbeck in the game. The England international scored twice in the game, and Emery has hinted that he could come into the team in place of one of the current striking partnership of Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for the Watford game.

Last weekend, the Gunners beat Everton 2-0 at the Emirates, a game in which they looked very comfortable. Lacazette and Aubameyang were both on the scoresheet. That victory followed on from a 4-2 home victory over Ukrainian side Vorskla Poltava in the first game of the Europa League group stage.

Hornets Have World To Do

Javi Gracia’s Watford team have not won in three games in all competitions, with their form in recent weeks wobbling a little bit after the fine start they made to the season. The Hornets are still in fourth place in the Premier League table, though, with 13 points from their six games. In midweek, they were knocked out of the League Cup by Tottenham Hotspur at Stadium MK. Spurs won on penalties, after the game finished 2-2. Last weekend, the Hornets drew 1-1 away at Fulham in the Premier League. Andre Gray put Watford into the lead in that game in the first half, but Geacia’s team could not hang on for victory. The week before that, Watford’s run of five wins in all competitions came to an end with a 2-1 defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Gracia’s team must now work hard to show that their early season form was not a flash in the pan. Travelling away to Arsenal is never easy, but the Hornets do have a decent recent record against the Gunners, having won three of the last six meetings between the teams in all competitions.

Arsenal vs Watford Preview: Recent Meetings

These two sides have played each 10 times in the Premier League previously. Out of those 10 games, Arsenal have won eight, and Watford two. There have been no draws. Four of Arsenal’s victories have come at home, and four at Watford. The Hornets have won one game at home and one game at Arsenal.

The two most recent league meetings between the teams were last season. The first encounter was at Vicarage Road in October 2017. The home side won the game 2-1, thanks to goals from Troy Deeney, who scored a second-half penalty, and Tom Cleverley, who scored a late winner in injury time at the end of the 90 minutes. Per Mertesacker had put Arsenal into the lead in the first half.

The second game was at the Emirates in March, and ended in a 3-0 victory for the Gunners. Shkodran Mustafi, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan scored.

Arsenal vs Watford Prediction: Low Scoring Draw

If you are looking for Arsenal vs Watford betting tips for today, our prediction is that the game will end in a 1-1 draw. While the Gunners have been in good form in recent times, Watford will be well-motivated for this clash, and may well cause the home side some problems. Troy Deeney is the type of player that Arsenal have found tricky to deal with over recent years, and he will relish causing problems for the Gunners back four. Gracia’s team would surely see coming away from the Emirates with a point as a positive result, and the Hornets are sure to be organised and disciplined in defence.
