Bohemians vs Cork City - Free Betting Tips

Bohemians
Cork City

Time is running out for Cork City to save their status as Irish Premier League champions, and it could be all but gone if they lose or draw at Bohemians’ Dalymount Park this Friday evening. Although the visitors are favourites here, the Bohemians vs Cork City betting tips you will read are made in the knowledge that the Rebels have failed to live up to expectations once or twice too often this season. That they’re facing a Bohemians side in decent form won’t help them one bit.

Cork come into this game as undoubted favourites, but knowing that their recent league form asks serious questions of their ability to deliver on a weekly basis. Nonetheless, they’ve usually had more than enough to fight off opponents of Bohemians’ limited quality, and at 5/6 with William Hill are worth backing. Nonetheless, can we expect them to make a meal of it like they have been since the summer? Probably, so the 15/4 from Betway on a draw at half time with an eventual away win are probably the Bohemians vs Cork City best odds of the evening. Those looking for an accurate Correct Score bet could do worse than the 15/2 that Paddy Power offer on a 2-0 away win.

Bohemians vs Cork City Betting Tips: Form Guide

Bohs Showing Up Well Against Limited Opposition

A quick glance at Bohemians’ recent showings would make it seem like they’ve got strong credentials to challenge for top honours – they have played and won five in a row away from home. Dig deeper though, and two of those games were against lower-league opposition in the Irish Cup (7-0 over Wexford, 2-0 at Galway), and another was in the inter-nation Challenge Cup, in which they won 2-0 at Scottish side Peterhead. Their league record in that time has been pretty decent, though, with wins at Derry (2-0) and Shamrock Rovers (1-0).

Indeed, Bohs recent record is a definite improvement on the start and middle of the season, during which they showed a marked inability to string performances together. They’ve won four out of the last five league games, the one miss coming on a trip to league leaders Dundalk, who unsurprisingly won 2-0. Either side of that, Keith Long’s side won 6-0 over Bray Wanderers and 5-0 against Limerick. Even though the latter two sides are the sick men of Ireland – both face relegation and the potential spectre of bankruptcy in the off-season – other opponents have failed to do what Bohemians did in comfortably beating them.

All of which means what, if you’re looking for Bohemians vs Cork City betting tips for today? Well, Cork will face a relatively confident and in-form Bohs side. However, the last time the Dublin team played a contender for the title, they did lose 2-0. While Long will hope for better today, his side will start as definite underdogs.

Cork Not Handling The Distraction

Like Bohemians, the Corkmen have faced the task of flitting between different competitions from week to week, with just two league games played since the beginning of August. Unlike their hosts today, though, John Caulfield’s side have not fared all that well on the rare occasions that they’ve had a Premier League outing in that time. Of their last five games, the first was a visit to Norway to face Rosenborg in the Europa League, and it ended badly with a 3-0 hammering (5-0 on aggregate). They then had a home fixture against St Patrick’s Athletic, and a post-Europe hangover saw them held to a 1-1 draw.

Cork were back in knockout action after that, with a home cup tie against Maynooth, who they easily dispatched 4-0. They also got through the next round a fortnight later, battering Longford Town 7-0 away. However, the fixture that sticks in their mind will be the one that came in between those cup assignments. Facing third-from-bottom Sligo Rovers at Turners Cross, it should have been a gimme for the title hopefuls, and when Karl Sheppard shot them ahead on ten minutes it seemed as though it would be. However, two goals in the last twenty minutes turned the game on its head, and three invaluable points went begging as the visitors won 2-1.

As things stand, Cork trail leaders Dundalk by six points, and with the Oriel Park side having this weekend off, the gap could be narrowed to three. However, as Bohemians vs Cork City match previews will point out, a defeat here would see the gap stay as it is, with Dundalk having a game in hand. Given that the Rebels’ next game is a home league showdown with that very same Dundalk, a win here is essential for the hopefuls to prevent losing any more ground with the season’s end just six games away.

Bohemians vs Cork City Preview: Recent Meetings

Cork may look at their recent games domestically and in Europe and cringe in advance of this game, but some relief may be on hand in the fact that they have faced Bohemians three times this season, and won all three. However, they might worry that the scores of those games have been – in chronological order – 3-0, 2-0, and 1-0. If you were a fan of number puzzles as a kid, you can probably see what the pattern is.

The fact remains though that Bohemians have yet to score against the defending champions in 270 minutes of football. At Turners’ Cross in March, the Rebels won easily through goals from Jimmy Keohane, Kieran Sadlier and Sheppard. At Dalymount Park a month later, the damage was done by an early goal for defender Colm Horgan before Graham Cummins made sure with a 65th-minute finish. Most recently, Gearoid Morrissey pitched in with an 89th-minute winner in a home victory for Cork in the closing days of June. Cork will settle for any kind of win this weekend.

Juventus vs Sassuolo Prediction: Convincing Home Win

With European distractions buried, and a rest from cup ties for a few weeks, Cork will know that it’s now or never for them to get down to business and pick up three points if they are to have any real hope of holding on to their title. With six games to play and a six-point deficit on Dundalk, they certainly can’t be excused any lack of focus on a visit to a side they have beaten three times this season. It would still be mathematically possible to hold on to the trophy if they don’t get the win here, but team confidence will be at an all-time low if they fail to win for a third consecutive league game.

Bohemians have plenty of reasons to be confident – being back at Dalymount for the first time since the 3rd of August would be among them, but their stunning winning run during that time would be a bigger one. Will home advantage and confidence be enough to defeat a Cork side that is clearly struggling? It might, but we’re going to go with a Bohemians vs Cork City prediction that flies in the face of that. With the knowledge that they can’t afford any more slip-ups, we think Cork will hang in and win this one, allowing them to welcome Dundalk next weekend with something to play for.
