Bournemouth
Crystal Palace

Bournemouth welcome Roy Hodgson’s Crystal Palace to the Vitality Stadium this weekend, in a battle of two teams who started the Premier League season abysmally. While the hosts have probably done enough to ensure their survival for this season, Bournemouth vs Crystal Palace betting tips will revolve around Palace’s need for points; they sit just two above the relegation spots and could really do with a positive result here.

Bournemouth’s relative safety and Palace’s need for the points – combined with the availability of the excellent Wilfried Zaha for this game – makes the odds of 9/5 on a Palace win (Coral) very interesting indeed. The game is liable to be tight, with the visitors aware a defeat could drop them into the relegation spots. That being the case, it’s worth checking out Genting’s 11/2 odds on Palace winning after being level at half time. Meanwhile, Christian Benteke has a point to prove. Does that make his price with Boylesports, of 13/2 to score the first goal, the Bournemouth vs Crystal Palace best odds of the weekend?

Cherries Blossoming Late This Year

Bournemouth look set to complete a third consecutive season as a Premier League team – you’d have got very long odds on that when they were promoted in the spring of 2015 – but they must wonder what might have been had they not lost their first four league games. Credit must go to the club’s board for not sacking Eddie Howe with the club sat in the relegation spots over Christmas – the revival he has overseen since then has been impressive.

Howe’s men responded to a run of three defeats against the current Premier League top three with a seven-game unbeaten run, including an excellent 3-0 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Although that run was brought to a shuddering halt by a 4-1 loss at Huddersfield, it seems to have done enough to drag Bournemouth out of the relegation fight.

The Cherries’ open style of football has meant that many of their games are not decided until the final stages. Recently they have dropped two points at Leicester, but picked up a total of four in games against Newcastle, Watford and West Brom with goals scored in or after the 90th minute. People who leave a Bournemouth game early do so at their own risk – as long as they aren’t already 4-1 down, obviously.

Palace Not Blessed By Good Luck

Losing four of their last five games may make it seem like Crystal Palace have been in awful form, but the opposition in those games has been stiff – Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham have all nicked games against Hodgson’s men by a single goal. In the one recent game against a team not battling for a Champions League place, they went to Huddersfield and grabbed all three points with a comfortable 2-0 victory.

Like Bournemouth, Palace would be enjoying a more pleasant April if they hadn’t started the season so badly – except they lost their first seven. The Selhurst Park side didn’t even score their first goal until their eighth game, when they defeated Chelsea 2-1. Since then, progress has been tentative, but a run of twelve games with only one defeat between November and January – capped by an excellent 3-0 win at Leicester – shows that they are a decent team at this level.

The story of Palace’s season has been largely told by their injury list. Zaha has missed much of this season and when he’s been out, they’ve tended to lose. When he’s in the team, they’re capable of great results. His presence in the squad for this game will have an impact on Huddersfield vs Crystal Palace betting tips for today.

Bournemouth vs Crystal Palace Preview: Recent Meetings

The last time these sides met the match, at Selhurst Park, ended 2-2, but the scoreline only tells half of the story.

A 10th-minute goal from Jermain Defoe put the visitors in front, before two goals in four minutes just before half time turned the match in Palace’s favour – Luka Milivojevic from the penalty spot, and then a header from Scott Dann. There was still time left in the half, though, for Defoe to score again, with a spectacular half-volley.

The match will be remembered for longer, though, due to a goal that didn’t happen. Benteke, without a goal in eleven games for Palace, grabbed the ball from Milivojevic to take a penalty in time added. The fire he showed in taking the ball deserted him when it came to striking the penalty, though, and Begovic saved easily to secure the draw. Two points dropped that could still cost Palace their Premier League status.

Bournemouth vs Crystal Palace Prediction: Away Win

No-one can deny that losing your first four games and still being in tenth place at the beginning of April shows real mental strength, so Bournemouth’s occasional shoddy performances must be down to something other than lack of nerve. Whatever it is, it seems to happen when they face a team that really has something to fight for. Spurs and Huddersfield (both 4-1 victors over the Cherries) are the two most recent examples.

It’s for that reason that we can see Palace – freed from the hideously tough fixture list they faced in March – picking up all three points here. They need those points, they are committed enough to push the cream of the Premier League to the limit, and they’ll be fired up for this game after a tough run. Howe’s men will give their all – they know no other way – but our Bournemouth vs Crystal Palace prediction is a narrow, nervy away win. Possibly with a last minute goal, probably not a Benteke penalty.
