Celtic
Kilmarnock

Table-topping Kilmarnock travel to the East End of Glasgow to face the mighty Celtic this weekend, with the usual roles of the teams reversed. It is Steve Clarke’s Killie who sit at the top of the Scottish Premiership, rather than Brendan Rodgers’ Hoops. Whether the Ayrshiremen can sustain their successful run remains to be seen, but their ascent is certainly providing Scottish football fans with plenty to talk about.

Celtic vs Kilmarnock Betting Tips: Form Guide

Celts Looking To Climb Over Killie

Celtic currently find themselves sitting in third place in the Scottish Premiership table, behind second-placed Rangers on goal difference, and a point behind leaders Kilmarnock. The fact that a victory over Killie this weekend will send the Hoops back to the top of the table will not have been lost on the club’s fans, who see success as their birthright. Celtic’s last defeat in any competition came in the Europa League against RB Leipzig on October 25, when the Celts lost 2-0 in Germany. Since then, the Bhoys have swept aside all domestic and European opposition. They also won their first silverware of the season last weekend when they beat Aberdeen 1-0 in the Scottish League Cup final. Confidence should be high heading into a home game this weekend.

The Celts seemed to suffer something of a cup hangover in midweek, though, when they were held to a 1-1 draw away at Motherwell. The Celts do have a tendency to draw away from home in the league this season, though, and Rodgers will have been pleased to have come through a tricky game with the current unbeaten run intact.

Clarke’s Killie Riding High

Steve Clarke’s Killie team sit at the top of the Scottish football pyramid heading into this game, and will be looking to stay there as long as possible. Clarke is in the process of building a serious reputation as a great coach, and how long he stays at Rugby Park is something that is sure to be speculated upon if Killie’s current success continues. Scottish football pundit Pat Nevin has even opined this week that he thinks that Clarke could be the ideal man to replace Brendan Rodgers as Celtic boss, when the Ulsterman finally departs from the Parkhead job.

Killie moved to the top of the Scottish Premiership table thanks to a 2-0 home win over Livingston on Wednesday evening. That victory followed hard on the heels of last weekend’s 3-0 home drubbing of Hibernian. Kilmarnock have not conceded a goal for four league games, with a 0-0 draw away at St Johnstone and a 1-0 win away at Hearts preceding those victories over Livi and Hibs. This is a team that can score goals and keep clean sheets, a combination that marks them for success. Celtic will not have an easy time of it on Saturday afternoon.

Celtic vs Kilmarnock Preview: Recent Meetings

These two sides have met on one previous occasion this season. The game was a Scottish Premiership game at Kilmarnock’s Rugby Park ground on September 23. The home side came out on top that day, beating the defending champions 2-1, and giving a real indication that the Ayrshire outfit were going to be a force to be reckoned with in 2018/19. Leigh Griffiths gave the Celts the lead in the 34th minute of the contest. After half-time, though, Killie mounted a spirited fightback, and former Rangers winger Chris Burke equalised for the Ayrshire side in the game’s 64th minute. It looked like it might end all-square, until Killie’s Stuart Findlay stepped up to score in the third minite of injury time. The game was hard-fought, with the stats showing that both teams had seven attempts on goal, with four of those being on target.

Celtic vs Kilmarnock Prediction: Low Scoring Draw

Given Killie’s recent run of good form, this game is actually tougher to call than the bookies’ odds would suggest. No bookies give Killie any chance at all in this game, if you go on the available odds. That seems misguided, and punters might well find some excellent value betting on Steve Clarke’s side to do well at Parkhead this weekend. Our prediction is that this will be a close game, and it is likely to end in a draw, with both teams scoring goals. Anyone looking for Celtic vs Kilmarnock betting tips for today should think about backing a 1-1 draw.
