Chelsea
Nottingham Forest

Chelsea welcome Championship outfit Nottingham Forest to Stamford Bridge on Saturday for what should be an interesting FA Cup third round tie. Forest are currently in seventh place in the Championship table, but have endured a rough run of games recently, having won just one of their last six matches. While the Blues will feel confident facing a team from a lower league, they need to avoid complacency.

Chelsea vs Nottingham Forest Betting Tips: Form Guide

Chelsea Need To Avoid Complacency

Maurizio Sarri’s Chelsea team continue to enjoy good form in 2018/19, with the odd blip occurring from time to time. In December and January, they have suffered two blips, with Leicester City winning 1-0 at Stamford Bridge just before Christmas. They were also held to a 0-0 draw at Stamford Bridge by Southampton earlier this week. The Blues currently sit in fourth place in the Premier League table, and a serious push for the title might just be beyond them this season. If Sarri feels that a title challenge is beyond them this season, then he might just take the FA Cup more seriously than many might expect, which could mean trouble for Forest.

The Blues have reached the FA Cup final for the last two seasons, losing in 2017 to Arsenal in the final, and beating Manchester United at Wembley last year. They have not been knocked out of the FA Cup in the third round since the 1997/98 season. History is also on the side of the Blues, with the Londoners having won all three of their previous FA Cup ties against Forest, in 1933/34, 1999/00 and 2006/07.

Forest’s Boss Feeling The Pressure

Aitor Karanka’s Nottingham Forest side returned to form on New Year’s Day, coming from behind to beat Leeds United 4-2 at the City Ground. The Reds scored three goals in seven frantic second-half minutes to seal victory. That result will have reduced the pressure on Karanka somewhat, with plenty of media speculation around recently that he was about to be sacked. That was Forest’s first victory in five games, so the result will have come as a relief to the club’s staff, as well as supporters.

Owner Evangelos Marinakis remains desperate to get the club into the Premier League as soon as possible, and has reinforced the staff at the club recently. Kyriakos Dourekas, who spent 25 years working at Olympiakos in Greece, was officially appointed as Nottingham Forest’s director of football last month. Former Marseille manager Jose Anigo could also join the club soon, with French media reports stating that the 57-year-old is in talks to become Forest’s sporting director.

How that affects the team remains to be seen, but the Forest players are sure to be keen to make their mark at the home of one of the Premier League’s top teams this weekend.

Chelsea vs Nottingham Forest Preview: Recent Meetings

Meetings between these two sides have been relatively rare in recent years, with Forest not having been in the Premier League for a long time now. The last time they played each other in the league was back in 1998/99. In total, there have been 92 games played between the teams in history, with Chelsea having won 38 of those. There have been 28 draws and Forest have won on 26 occasions.

The last time the two sides met was in the League Cup last season. Chelsea welcomed Forest to Stamford Bridge in September 2017, in the third round of the competition. The Blues emerged as emphatic victors that evening, triumphing 5-1. Belgian forward Michy Batshuayi, currently on loan at Valencia, scored a hat-trick for the Londoners, with the other goals coming from Kenedy and Charley Musonda. Tendayi Darikwa struck a late consolation goal for Forest.

Chelsea vs Nottingham Forest Prediction: Comfortable Home Win

If you’re looking for Chelsea vs Nottingham Forest betting tips for today, then our prediction for this game is that it will be a comfortable 3-0 win for the home side. While Forest are amongst the challengers for a play-off spot in the Championship, they have not been in scintillating form in recent weeks, having struggled to win many games over the last month or so. Chelsea have enough quality to sweep Forest aside imperiously, and their main enemy will be complacency. If they don’t respect Forest then the East Midlanders might just have enough about them to launch a smash and grab raid. That looks unlikely, though.
