England vs India Betting Tips: Form Guide

England Prepare To Say Farewell To Cook

The main talking point for England is their top order batting, which has been poor all summer. It has been left to the middle and lower order batsman to get the runs needed for victory. Those run scorers have often gone on to contribute wickets too, so the team is great when it comes to having all-rounders. What it needs is its specialists to start producing runs too. The news has been this week that the batting order will stay the same for the final Test, which means that Jonny Bairstow will play as a specialist batsman, in all likelihood coming in at number four. Jos Buttler will keep the wicketkeeper’s gloves.

This will also be Alistair Cook’s final game for England. The 33-year-old holds the record for the most England Test runs with 12,254, but his form has been below-par for some time now. England fans will want Cook to depart from the international scene on a high. If you’re looking for England vs India betting tips for today, it might worth keeping an eye on the veteran batsman, as he will be keen to mark his final game with some runs.

India Seeking Improvement In Key Areas

India will have been desperately disappointed to have lost at Southampton, after looking like they could win the game almost right up until the end. India’s main problem in this series has been lack of proper preparation for Test cricket in the run-up to the series. One three-day match against Essex is not enough to sharpen up the techniques needed to bat in English conditions at this level of cricket. It is only later in this series that we have finally seen just how good the Indian seam attack is, for one thing.

Although they cannot now win the series, India will want to end the English summer on a high, especially for the thousands of fans who travel from all over the world to watch their heroes. Jasprit Bumrah has shown that he is a world-class bowler in English conditions, and punters should keep an eye on him when it comes to placing bets on which bowlers are likely to excel.

One thing that will have concerned captain Virat Kohli and coach Ravi Shastri is the way that the batsman failed to cope with Moeen Ali’s off-spin. Indian players are supposed to be good players of spin, after all.

England vs India Preview: Recent Meetings

England are now 3-1 up in the series, thanks to their victory in the Third Test at Southampton last week. England all-rounder Moeen Ali was named as Man of the Match, after taking 5/63 in the first innings and 4/71 in the second innings. He is unlikely to bat at number three again, though, after scoring nine runs off 15 balls when he went up the order in England’s second innings.

Mohammed Shami was one of the Indian seam bowlers who performed well, taking 4/57 in England’s second innings, a good display of bowling which, sadly for India, could not secure them victory in Southampton. In terms of the Indian batting performance, Cheteshwar Pujara chipped in with an impressive tally of 132 runs from 257 balls in the first innings. Virat Kohli also impressed with the bat again, scoring 46 in the first and 58 in the second.

England vs India Prediction: Narrow Home Win

The prediction is that England will win the game, but it will close and entertaining again. The bouncy pitch at the Oval might well suit seam bowling, so it could be another difficult game for the batsman of both sides. England have shown that they possess just about enough all-round strength, as well as experience of playing in home conditions, to see off the Indian challenge. That is not to say that England won’t do damage to England, though. It will also be interesting to see if Adil Rashid can finally make a decisive contribution to the Test Series. England should win the game, but betting on a tight margin would be a good idea, in our view.
