Fleetwood Town
Accrington Stanley

It’s a Lancashire derby on Saturday afternoon in League One, with Accrington Stanley, a famous old club, visiting Fleetwood Town. Both teams have started the season in decent form, with Fleetwood in sixth place on the league ladder, and Stanley in tenth. Neutrals will also be interested in this game, simply because the often controversial Joey Barton is now the manager of Fleetwood. It should be an entertaining game.

Fleetwood Town vs Accrington Stanley Betting Tips: Form Guide

Fleetwood In A Good Position

Joey Barton’s Fleetwood Town team have not lost a League One match since the opening day of the season, when they were beaten 1-0 at home by Wimbledon. They are unbeaten in their six league games since then, winning three and drawing three. Highlights of that six-game unbeaten league run include winning 5-0 away at Scunthorpe, and a battling 2-0 home win over Bradford City, a game in which Town were reduced to 10-men, after Wes Burns was sent off in the 42nd minute. Premier League side Leicester City have been Fleetwood’s ‘bogey team’ this season. The Foxes knocked Town out of the League Cup, winning 4-0 at the King Power Stadium in the second round of the competition. City’s Under-21s also beat Fleetwood on penalties in the Checkatrade Trophy earlier this week, though one suspects that Barton will not be too concerned about either of those defeats to Leicester.

The league campaign is what matters, and Barton has shown so far that he is capable of building a consistent team, which can both keep things tight at the back and offer plenty of threat in attack. Fleetwood have scored 12 league goals, and conceded five in 2018/19.

Accrington Drawing Too Often

Accrington Stanley boss John Coleman has a bit of a selection headache this weekend, and all for the right reasons. His entire squad is fit to play and available, including all seven of his loan signings. Only five loan players are allowed to be named in the matchday squad, so the line-up Coleman names will be interesting to see. Coleman told the media this week that he does not think he has ever had such a range of options at his disposal when it comes to players during his spell at the club.

Stnaley are likely to need a full squad, too. The team have had a real problem winning games in recent weeks, with one victories in their last six games in all competitions. Their last win was a 3-2 victory away at Oxford United on August 21. Three out of their last four league games have ended 1-1, which is a sign that the team lacks a little bit of ruthlessness. Having said that, coming away from Fleetwood with a point would probably be seen as a good result by Coleman.

Fleetwood Town vs Accrington Stanley Preview: Recent Meetings

These two sides have played each other on four occasions previously, with all four of those games coming in League Two. The four games were played in seasons 2012/13 and 2013/14. Each side has won on two occasions, with there being no draws.

The two most recent fixtures saw each side win their home game. In November 2013, Accrington welcomed Fleetwood to the Store First Stadium and won the game 2-0. They left it late, though. Danny Webber scored their first goal from the penalty spot in the 75th minute, with Kayode Odejayi adding a second in the 82nd minute.

In the other league game between the teams that season, at Fleetwood’s Highbury Stadium on New Year’s Day 2014, the home side 3-1. Jon Parkin, David Ball and Danny Carr were the Town goalscorers, with Odejayi netting a consolation goal for the visitors.

Fleetwood Town vs Accrington Stanley Prediction: Narrow Home Win

If you’re looking for Fleetwood Town vs Accrington Stanley Betting Tips for today, then it might be a good idea to back the home side to win this game. Fleetwood are very hard to beat at the moment, and they look like being one of the teams pushing for promotion or a play-off place, come the business end of the season. They are strong at the back and offer threat in attack, too. Our prediction is that Fleetwood will win this game 1-0.
