Haugesund vs Brann - Free Betting Tips

Haugesund
Brann

Haugesund have probably lost their last chance to mount a title challenge, but they can play the role of spoilers in the race this weekend as they welcome Brann, the side who set the pace for most of the season. The visitors narrowly beat Ranheim last time out, and as the Haugesund vs Brann betting tips below will indicate, they have another tough challenge on their hands. If they are to have a chance of catching and overtaking hegemonic power Rosenborg, this is a game Lars Nilsen’s men cannot afford to lose.

As the teams in third and second place respectively, these sides aren’t without their merits in attack, and backing both teams to score at 3/4 with Dafabet is a canny call. They’ll both go into this knowing that a win will give much-needed momentum for the closing weeks of the Eliteserien season. However, they are so evenly-matched that it’s genuinely tough to pick a winner. The chance that they will fight each other to an entertaining stalemate is substantial, which makes Betway’s 11/5 price on a draw the Haugesund vs Brann best odds of the weekend. If you’re feeling a little more ambitious, then your destination should be William Hill. They have 14/1 on Haugesund to lead at half time but the game to finish as a draw, which is what so often happens when two sides like these meet.

Haugesund vs Brann Betting Tips: Form Guide

Haugesund Halted By RBK

Unexpectedky, FKH Araberne played themselves into a title race without people really noticing, and they went into the “first plays third” clash with leaders Rosenborg knowing that they could close to just two points off the top spot with a win. If the visitors hoped to test the strength of Rini Coolen’s caretaker management, though, they’ll have left disappointed with the result. A single goal, scored midway through the first half by winger Jonathan Levi, was enough for RBK to claim victory. The hosts played out the remaining three-quarters of the game if not in comfort, then at least without any real panic.

A missed opportunity? Yes and no. As noted, Haugesund didn’t expect to be in this position at this stage in the season. After a lowly tenth-place finish last season, their minds were mostly on not getting relegated this time around. However, excellent recent form has seen them into the European spots – where they are a decent bet to stay – and they retain a sliver of a chance for more. True, it would require a collapse from RBK that doesn’t look like it’s on the way, but Eirik Horneland has piloted his side to good recent wins over Valerenga (1-0) and Stabaek (2-0) as well as a handy victory away to Tromso.

With a gentle landing after this game – their next four league games are all against bottom-half sides – FKH could use a win here as a springboard to their highest finish in recent years. While the Haugesund vs Brann betting tips for today suggest a win might be tricky, we should know by now that the hosts are capable of springing a few surprises when they need to.

It’s Now Or Never For Brann

Given that they were playing in the second tier as recently as 2015, Brann would in normal circumstances see second place as a decent finish, particularly given the recent dominance of Rosenborg. However, they led the league for so much of this season that to see the Eliteserien trophy return to the Lerkendal for yet another season would be heartbreaking. Just as the Trondheim side have hit a winning streak, Nilsen’s men have entered a run of indifferent form. Their last two away games have seen them lose 2-0 to Valerenga and be crushed 5-1 by an Erling Haaland-inspired Molde.

Indeed, the 17-year-old wonderkid could be the player who eventually writes the death notice of Brann’s title charge. As well as scoring the opening goal, and assisting another in the 5-1 game, he scored four goals in the first 21 minutes as Molde won 4-0 in Bergen to set the wheels of this current crisis in motion. While they have recovered at home, with wins to nil against Sarpsborg and Ranheim in the last two games at Brann Stadion, this searching trip to Haugesund will require the hopefuls to win on the road for the first time since June. Worse yet, as we’ll see shortly, the last time they travelled to this ground it didn’t end well.

The key point that will be rehashed across all Haugesund vs Brann match previews is that the visitors have not had a reliable goalscorer, and their total of 31 goals – the lowest among the current top five teams – has made it hard to pull away from opponents who they should be beating. It’s also left them vulnerable to goal-happy opponents like Molde, and if at any stage they go two goals behind this weekend, that’s probably the end of their title dreams.

Haugesund vs Brann Preview: Recent Meetings

These sides are reawakening a fight that has seen two battles already this season, the first of which came at Brann Stadion in mid-May. On that occasion, Haugesund took the lead on 56 minutes when veteran midfield bruiser Christian Grindheim fired home from Babajide Akintola’s pass. Just as a largely outplayed visiting side looked like they could pull off a smash-and-grab raid, though, Kristoffer Barmen dived to head Koomson’s cross past a despairing Per Braatveit. Honours even, and that’s how it stayed.

In July, during the season hiatus, the sides met again in a friendly at Haugesund. If that match held any omens for what is to come this weekend, then Brann can forget about printing up any Champions League merchandise. The game ended 3-1 to the home side and, even though it was a friendly, it will certainly offer the home side a valuable psychological advantage in this contest.

Haugesund vs Brann Prediction: Ultimately Frustrating Draw

Both sides are still in with a real chance of pulling off something impressive. Haugesund could well finish second this season, an achievement they wouldn’t have thought likely at the beginning of the season; indeed, with the champions still to face Molde and Brann on the road, there’s still an outside chance of them ending the season on top. For Brann, that chance to win the title is even greater. Just two points separate them from the leaders, and there is the prospect of a winner-take-all contest in Bergen at the end of October. For both these sides, much of what is at stake comes with the strong caveat: If they win here.

With the sides so close to doing something genuinely unexpected, it would be naive to expect an open game here. Haugesund had momentum, but a frustrating missed opportunity in Trondheim a fortnight ago has stalled that somewhat. Brann have made something of a mess of their excellent position, gained in the first half of the season, and both sides will be conscious of the importance of not making a mistake that could cost them dearly. For those reasons, and given how even things are between the sides, our Haugesund vs Brann prediction is for the sides to end up with a point each from this encounter. Although they’re not involved here, the winners on this occasion may be Rosenborg.
