Hibernian
Celtic

Celtic return to domestic action this weekend after an eventful week in the Europa League, making the trip to Edinburgh to face Hibernian on Sunday lunchtime. Hibs have found themselves slipping down the Scottish Premiership table in recent weeks, and could do with a boost. Neil Lennon and his team will be hoping that European adventures have taken their toll on Celtic’s energy levels ahead of this clash.

Hibernian vs Celtic Betting Tips: Form Guide

Hibs Have To Find Some Form

Neil Lennon’s Hibs team have enjoyed mixed results in recent weeks. Since being beaten 4-2 by Celtic on October 20, Hibs have struggled to put any kind of run together. They followed that defeat to the Hoops with a goalless draw against city rivals Heart of Midlothian, and have only won once in the Scottish Premiership since then. That solitary win was last week’s 1-0 win away at Hamilton, where a goal from Oli Shaw sealed the three points for Lennon’s men. The week before, Hibs had been held to a 2-2 draw by struggling St Mirren at Easter Road. Hibs were forced to fight back from 1-0 and 2-1 in that game to secure a point, a sign that the team is low on confidence, as St Mirren have not been very good at all this season.

If you’re looking for Hibernian vs Celtic betting tips for today, then it is probably also worth noting that the home side will have to do without Paul Hanlon, David Gray and Marvin Bartley. Hibs have won just one of their last nine league matches against Celtic, and have failed to win their last three league games at Easter Road.

Celts Back From European Adventures

Celtic managed to qualify for the knockout stage of the Europa League on Thursday night, managing to secure second place in their group, despite a 2-1 home defeat to RB Salzburg. Thankfully for Brendan Rodgers and his team, Rosenborg scored a late goal against RB Leipzig in the other group game, allowing the Celts to sneak through. Domestically, though, Celtic have been in very strong form, and have not lost in the league since Kilmarnock beat them on September 23. Heart of Midlothian are the only other team to face the Hoops and come away with three points this season.

Celtic got revenge for that loss to Killie, beating the Ayrshire side 5-1 last weekend at Celtic Park. In midweek leading up to that game, the Bhoys were held to a 1-1 draw at Motherwell, in their last away game in the league. That result might give Hibs some hope, but Celtic still have quality in every position in the pitch. Some focus might be on goalkeeper Craig Gordon, who made a real howler that led to a goal in the Europa League defeat to Salzburg on Thursday evening.

Hibernian vs Celtic Preview: Recent Meetings

These two sides have met on one previous occasion this season, at Celtic Park on October 20. Tom Rogic put Celtic into an eighth-minute lead in that game, before his team mate Olivier Ntcham added a second in the 19th minute. Hibs were totally outplayed in their first 45 minutes, with the Bhoys hitting the post three times as well as scoring twice. After half-time, Hibs improved, with Florian Kamberi pulling one back for the Leith side in the 63rd minute. Six minutes later, Odsonne Eouard restored the two-goal advantage for Celtic. Martin Boyle scored for Hibs in the 73rd minute, but Neil Lennon’s team could not sustain their revival. Celtic ended up winning the game 4-2, with a second goal from Edouard sealing the victory for the Celts. The last quarter of the game became frantic and frenetic as Hibs sought in vain for an equaliser.

Hibernian vs Celtic Prediction: Comfortable Away Win

Our prediction for this game is that Celtic will win it, and pretty comfortably in the end. While Neil Lennon is sure to have his team fired up for this game, having spent so much of his playing and coaching career at Celtic Park, his team have not been firing on all cylinders in recent weeks. Confidence looks to be a bit shaken at Easter Road, and if Celtic manage to get an early goal, it could be a long afternoon on Sunday for the Hibs. We predict that the Celts will take the three points with a 2-0 victory.
