Hibernian
Celtic

Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic can complete the second leg of a potential second consecutive treble by going to Easter Road and beating Hibs – now under the management of former Hoops boss Neil Lennon. While Hibernian vs Celtic betting tips will undoubtedly have the champions-elect as favourites, they’ve rarely had it all their own way against the Edinburgh side this season. Hibs will again push them all the way in this contest, but will that be enough?

The sides have fought out a couple of high-scoring draws this season, with Celtic winning the last outing narrowly. Given the previous contests, it seems reasonable to have a punt on Both Teams To Score – available for 4/5 with 888Sport, and definitely good value at that price. Equally, if you see another draw on the horizon, then you can back that at 3/1 with 138.com, which may well be the Hibernian vs Celtic best odds of the entire weekend. Meanwhile, although Celtic’s strikers are low-priced to score, none of them have got into double figures in the league all season. That’s not value, while a 15/2 price on newly-fit winger Patrick Roberts to score first may well be.

Hibernian vs Celtic Betting Tips: Form Guide

Hibs Hard To Beat

Although Hibs’ record against the league leaders has been strong this season, they won’t hugely welcome this weekend’s opponents, as Celtic were the last side to manage a win over the Edinburgh side. Since losing 1-0 to Celtic in Glasgow, Lennon’s men have been unbeaten in nine games, which have included trips to Ibrox where they beat Rangers 2-1 and to form team Kilmarnock, who had to come from 2-0 down after 10 minutes to draw the game. The fact that Killie have not dropped a single point since demonstrates the form that Hibs have shown recently.

It would be inaccurate to say that Hibs are incapable of a shaky performance. Last time out they travelled to struggling Ross County and came within an injury-time equaliser of losing to a side that has struggled for points all season. By and large, though, their form has been impressive in their first season back in the top flight and with the addition of Scott Allan on loan from Celtic (he’ll be ineligible for today’s game), they have had one of the best midfields in Scotland this season.

Perhaps the main drawback for Hibs is the absence of a reliable scorer, although Swiss striker Florian Kamberi has shown flourishes since signing at the end of January, scoring six goals in the league. Kamberi was the hero last time out at Easter Road, as his hat-trick allowed Hibs to beat Hamilton 3-1 in a game where the visitors had led. The club’s top scorer this season though is still Anthony Stokes, which is bad news given that the club released him in January for repeated serious breaches of team discipline.

Celtic Top Without Hitting Heights

2016/17 was a special season for Celtic as they completed an “Invincible Treble”, winning all three domestic trophies without losing a single game. This time around, Rodgers’ men have lost to Hearts and to Kilmarnock – but they still stand on the cusp of a treble if they can win one game in the league as well as beating Motherwell in a second cup final. The league could so easily be wrapped up by now – a home draw with Dundee a few weeks ago led to accusations of complacency among players who know the title will be theirs but are doing little to secure it in a hurry.

Complacency was not on show at Hampden Park last weekend as Celtic beat Glasgow rivals Rangers to progress to the Scottish Cup final. The final score was 4-0 to the Hoops, but could easily have been a lot worse for the Ibrox side as Rogic, McGregor, and penalties from Dembele and Ntcham had Celtic home and hosed long before the end. While this may not affect Hibernian vs Celtic betting tips for today too much – Rodgers has comfortably had Rangers’ number for most of the last two seasons – it did remind Bhoys fans that the players can turn it on when the occasion demands it.

A few weeks ago, Rodgers told the press he wished that there could be more Old Firm title deciders. He may get his wish if his charges do not beat Hibernian this weekend, as the match that follows this one on the calendar is the final game against their Glasgow rivals this season, at Celtic Park. Some Hibernian vs Celtic match previews may even take some notice of that and expect the Hoops to be less proactive about winning this weekend. However, that assumes that Rangers will automatically beat Hearts the following day, which is a pretty big assumption to make right now.

Hibernian vs Celtic Preview: Recent Meetings

This will be the fifth time the clubs have met this season – they’ve met three times in the League and once in the League Cup, and twice each at Easter Road and Celtic Park. The last time they met was the first League game between the sides which has ended in one team winning, as Leigh Griffiths scored the only goal in January’s league meeting at Celtic Park.

Prior to that, they had met at each other’s grounds in the Premiership and finished both games 2-2. At Easter Road in December, Scott Sinclair scored twice for the Hoops as they moved into a 2-0 lead, before former Hoops defender Efe Ambrose pulled a goal back, and then Ollie Shaw equalised with ten minutes to go. At Celtic Park, meanwhile, Callum McGregor’s early opener was cancelled out by two goals from John McGinn. In the 80th minute, just as Hibs looked like springing a big surprise, McGregor equalised for Celtic. The League Cup tie ended 4-2 to Celtic.

Hibernian vs Celtic Prediction: Draw

Placing the qualities of these teams side by side, you would be forced to say that Celtic are the better of the two, and that it isn’t even really that close. And yet, in their three league meetings, just one goal has separated them. Few people know Celtic as well as Lennon does – he won five league titles with them as a player and a further two as manager. Not to mention that Hibs are refreshed after a week’s break that Celtic haven’t had, and that while Celtic will win the League, Hibs could yet get ahead of Rangers and Aberdeen to take second place. They’ll be up for this one, make no mistake.

Of course, Celtic would like to wrap up the title. It’s been too long already, by their standards. Forget that they have a home fixture with their rivals next week – Rodgers would rather that be a coronation than a confirmation if it really comes down to it – Celtic will play out a draw with Hibs here because the teams know each other well, neither is losing games right now, and it’s taking place at Easter Road. In their first season back in Scotland’s top tier, Hibs could finish as runners-up. They haven’t got where they are without being tenacious, as Celtic know only too well.

Therefore, our Hibernian vs Celtic prediction is a 1-1 draw – with the title being sealed at another point.
