Hibernian
Kilmarnock

Kilmarnock make the trip to Leith to face Hibernian this weekend, with manager Steve Clarke having been in trouble with the Scottish Football Association, for making comments critical of the governing body’s disciplinary systems. His counterpart at Hibs, Neil Lennon, has also been in the news, having banned mobile phones from training. Now it is time for the players to take centre stage, and hopefully entertain the fans.

Hibernian vs Kilmarnock Betting Tips: Form Guide

Hibs Needing A Boost

Hibs manager Neil Lennon has stated this week that his mobile phone ban at training is an attempt to create an “oasis” for players away from social media. The fiery Ulsterman has freely admitted that he is an old-school manager, and put the ban in place to help boost communication and togetherness amongst his players. Whether it helps to boost Hibs’ form remains to be seen, but recent results suggest that something is needed to help the team’s confidence.

Since beating Motherwell 3-0 on the opening day of the Scottish Premiership season, Hibs have not won another league match. Last week, they were beaten 2-1 away at Premiership new boys Livingston, which is not a result which will inspire the supporters. Hibs have also been knocked out of the Europa League already, something which will also have disappointed many at the club. Lennon therefore really needs key players to pull out some big performances and help the team find the wins they need to start climbing the table. Currently in sixth place, Hibs know that beating a top-six rival like Killie will send out a positive message.

Controversial Clarke Leading Killie Upwards

The main story involving Kilmarnock this week has been about manager Steve Clarke being charged by the SFA for his critical remarks about their disciplinary policies. His comments were made in regard to the red card received by Killie player Steve Dicker earlier in the season. He has been charged with bringing the game into disrepute. Whether the situation has any effect on Clarke’s players remains to be seen.

There was more positive news for the club this week, though, with Stephen O’Donnell playing an important role in Scotland’s win over Albania at Hampden Park in the UEFA Nations League. Clarke will be hoping that O’Donnell’s energetic performance for the national side has not drained too much energy from the player’s legs.

Last time out, Killie won 2-0 away at Aberdeen, a really positive result that took them to third place in the Premiership table, with seven points. Prior to that win, Killie had lost 1-0 at home to Heart of Midlothian, in their previous league match, and had been knocked out of the League Cup by Rangers. Beating Aberdeen was an important step towards generating some fresh momentum.

Hibernian vs Kilmarnock Preview: Recent Meetings

If you are looking for Hibernian vs Kilmarnock betting tips for today, it is worth noting that the last game between these two sides was an eight-goal thriller. That game was at Easter Road in April, after the Scottish Premiership had split. Hibs ended up on the right side of a 5-3 final score. The game swung back and forth between the teams, with Hibs opening the scoring in the 29th minute. Killie equalised just four minutes later. The second half of the game saw six goals scored, providing spectators with plenty of entertainment, as long as they were neutrals. Committed fans probably found the whole thing a little bit too stressful to enjoy.

The teams played each in the Premiership on three occasions prior to that game at Easter Road last season. Hibs won the first match 3-0, with the other two games ending in draws.

Hibernian vs Kilmarnock Prediction: Exciting Score Draw

Kilmarnock have been one of the Scottish Premiership’s early season pace-setters so far in 2018/19, and Hibs will need to be at their best to beat Steve Clarke’s team. Another defeat for Hibs and one senses that the pressure might begin to build on Neil Lennon. Hibs will undoubtedly be backed by a passionate home crowd, though, which is something they might well need. The prediction is that this will be an exciting game for spectators, but it will end in a draw. A final scoreline of 1-1 looks likely to us here at Betting.org.
