Alleged Stakes Betting Tips

The 2019 Alleged Stakes betting tips from Betting.org experts say Aidan O’Brien trained filly Magical is top rated and gets a sex allowance, so looks well-in for the 1m 2f Group 3 race at Naas on Saturday, 13 April. Irish St Leger one-two Flag Of Honour and Latrobe re-oppose over this shorter trip and the latter is taken to reverse that form now dropped back to 10 furlongs. Course and distance winner Still Standing, meanwhile, caught the eye when winning at Listed level around this venue last time out and is an each-way alternative to the established names on show. Magical can enhance O’Brien record in Alleged Stakes

Master Irish trainer Aidan O’Brien has won the Group 3 Alleged Stakes four times including 12 months ago with Capri. Four-year-old filly Magical is taken to make a winning reappearance in this feature race over 1m 2f at Naas on Saturday (16:35), and further enhance her handler’s fine record in this contest.

This daughter of Galileo drops back in trip after running two huge races at the end of last season when winning the Group 1 Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes at Ascot, then chasing home Enable in the Breeders’ Cup Turf across the Atlantic.

Many in this contest like Magical are down in distance on their previous exploits, but she is top rated on a mark of 122 and receives a 3lb sex allowance from the field.

It puts her 5lb and upwards clear of her seven opponents on official figures, and she is well-in taking on the boys in addition to that. These very favourable terms make it hard to look past Magical, who is the chosen mount of stable jockey Ryan Moore.

With her rider operating at just under a 30 per cent strike rate in the last 14 days at the time of writing, and Magical versatile as regards ground, there is simply nothing not to like about her for this. She is thus put up as the most likely winner in these Alleged Stakes betting tips, and it will be very interesting to see where connections go with her next.

Latrobe the biggest danger at this trip

Two Classic winners in Irish St Leger winner Flag Of Honour and Irish Derby victor Latrobe re-oppose from Leopardstown. While the former won over 1m 6f, this trip looks more likely to suit the latter who is trained by Joseph O’Brien and he is feared most as a result.

The four-year-old Camelot colt likes to get up front and make races a test, although in recent runs a change of tactics has been tried. Latrobe progressed when romping to a 6 1/2 lengths victory in a Curragh maiden before returning there to capture the Irish Derby.

Although then a disappointing 10th in the Group 1 Juddmonte International at York, he bounced back to form in the Irish Leger when beaten 2 3/4 lengths by Flag Of Honour. While Latrobe pressed the winner inside the last couple of furlongs, he couldn’t make an impression and was eased close home when it became clear he wouldn’t win.

This is half-a-mile shorter than the Leger, however, and Latrobe has since been held just a head over the trip when contesting the Group 1 Mackinnon Stakes at Flemington in Australia. Flag Of Honour may struggle to confirm the form over 10 furlongs having contested events over about 2m on his last couple of starts.

It makes Latrobe look the biggest danger despite carrying joint top weight for his earlier Classic success. His 115 rating is just 2lb shy of Flag Of Honour, although on these terms he’s 10lb to find on Magical. Our 2019 Alleged Stakes betting tips thus recommend Latrobe to win a match bet with Flag Of Honour.

Still Standing has each-way squeak

On all known form, the others need at least one of the big three in this to underperform considerably. Still Standing put in a very eye-catching display when winning over course and distance at Listed level when last in action, so could be worth chancing each-way.

Although the Jessica Harrington trained four-year-old son of Mastercraftsman has the most to find on official figures, he won well under a hands and heels ride here last month. Prior to that, Still Standing won three of his four starts in handicaps last year and looks unexposed.

This demands plenty more than such exploits, but the colt is clearly a 10 furlongs specialist and many of his rivals want further. Still Standing is one of only two in the line-up with course and distance victories to their name alongside Ger Lyons trained six-year-old Mustajeer.

That one lacks the progressive profile of the Harrington horse, however, but was a fine fourth in the Ebor Handicap at York on his final start of last season. As that suggests Mustajeer wants further than this too, it’s Still Standing who completes our 2019 Alleged Stakes betting tips as an each-way punt.
