Danceteria holds solid each-way claims in Cambridgeshire

Danceteria has improved throughout the season and makes plenty of each-way appeal at the odds on offer in the feature contest at Newmarket on Saturday, the 1m 1f Cambridgeshire Handicap (15:40). This David Menuisier trained three-year-old has won four of his six starts and constantly defied the handicapper in the process.

After opening his account with a neck success in a 10-runner affair at Sandown back in June off a mark 77, the gelding went on to complete a four-timer with a very impressive success over the July course here off 16lb higher. After being held-up, Danceteria made smooth headway two from home under crack apprentice Jason Watson.

When produced to take up the running at the furlong marker, the son of Redoute’s Choice quickened clear when given a shake of the reins to easily beat Alternative Fact by 3 3/4 lengths. Danceteria got with a further 11lb rise as a result of that taking success but ran an absolute screamer off his revised rating of 104 when a 3 3/4 lengths fifth of 19 to Hamely in a Premier Handicap at The Curragh earlier in the month when arguably an unlucky loser.

After losing vital ground when dwelling at the start, Danceteria powered home from the three marker to be gaining hand over first at the line. Given how the race panned out, it was a terrific effort and Danceteria is now able to race in this off 1lb lower.

It gives him every chance at the weights and another plus is that and he has a 75 per cent strike rate under jockey Fran Berry (three wins from four starts). There is nothing not to like about his profile for this, so Danceteria there features as the main each-way punt in our 2018 Cambridgeshire Handicap betting tips – a race in which many bookmakers will be offering enhanced place terms.

Stylehunter primed to go well for Gosden

In a race in which a maximum field of 35 are set to go to post, there are a whole host of others to consider, and the John Gosden trained Stylehunter is another that appeals each-way in a typically wide-open and fierce renewal. After shaping with plenty of promise in his first two starts this season, the three-year-old opened his account with a a very easy six-length success in 10-runner maiden over 1m 2f on the all-weather at Lingfield.

Stylehunter was given an opening handicap mark of 91 on the back of that success and ran cracker off it when a 2 1/2 lengths sixth of 30 to Ostilio in the Britannia Stakes over 1m at Royal Ascot when keeping on nicely to be nearest at the finish. It was a big run in what is a hot race and one which suggested there was better to come.

That view was confirmed when he beat Easy Tiger by four lengths at Goodwood last month over the 1m 1f trip of this following a break. Stylehunter scored with stacks in hand and an 8lb rise in the weights has enabled him to scrape into this.

Off 8st 12lb, he receives weight from all but three of his rivals and it looks as if Gosden has had this as his long-term target. Stylehunter is also entitled to come on for that spin, so looks primed to run a huge race in the hands of Rab Havlin.

Afaak a lively outsider at huge odds

Afaak looks overpriced on the pick of his form and a lively outsider capable of outrunning his massive odds. The Charlie Hills trained four-year-old has course and distance form to his name having ran very well at this meeting 12 months ago when a 1/2 length second of 16 to the classy Addeybb in the Silver Cambridgeshire.

The son of Oasis Dream has posted some very solid efforts to make the frame this season, including when a 2 1/4 lengths second of 30 to Settle For Bay in the Royal Hunt Cup over 1m at Ascot off a mark of 103. Afaak backed that up with a fine 3 3/4 length fourth of 15 to Alfarris over 1m 2f at Goodwood off his current rating of 104.

He now meets that rival, who is favourite for this and less than half his odds in the betting, on 9lb better terms. That means that there is not much between them in the book – in stark contrast to the prices being offered at the time of writing.

So, given that Afaak has shown he can be competitive from his current rating, and also has proven form in big fields, he looks the value bet of the pair and thus secured a place among our each-way 2018 Cambridgeshire Handicap betting tips.
