Josies Orders the answer to Punchestown opener

Josies Orders looks the one to be on in the 3m 1f P. P. Hogan Memorial Cross Country Chase that gets proceedings underway on a seven-race card at Punchestown on Sunday (13:45). This Enda Bolger trained 11-year-old goes in the famous green and gold colours of leading Irish owner J P McManus and ran a stormer when runner-up in this 12 months ago.

The gelding went down all guns blazing when beaten a neck by stable companion Auvergnat, getting chinned on the line. The pair pulled 20 lengths clear of the field and Josies Orders went on to go one better at the Festival here in April when staying on strongly to beat Hurricane Darwin by 8 1/2 lengths.

He comes into this year’s renewal in better form having shown a really willing attitude to beat Fact Of The Matter by three-quarters of a length at Cheltenham two starts back, before running well when a two-length third of 11 to that rival last time out at the same venue.

The form of those handicap races just about sets the standard in this and the son of Milan has a good record at the venue, having won twice and been placed three times in six starts. Josies Orders is also real cross country specialist and has the services of the red-hot Mark Walsh in the saddle.

He’s also on a 37 per cent strike rate when sporting blinkers only and is versatile as regards ground. There is simply nothing not to like about the profile of Josies Orders for this, so we therefore had no hesitation in making him the standout punt in these Punchestown betting tips for February 10.

Impact Factor fancied for first chase victory

Impact Factor has posted some solid efforts in defeat of late and looks worth a wager to gain a deserved first success over the larger obstacles in the 2m novice chase (15:50). This seven-year-old hails from the yard of Jessie Harrington and is 1-1 at the venue, having landed a maiden hurdle 13 months ago.

The son of Flemensfirth went on to finish a fine half-a-length runner-up to Hardline in a Grade 2 at Naas, before finding things too hot on his final start of the campaign when a well-beaten 11th of 13 to Lalor in a Grade 1 at the Aintree Grand National Festival.

Impact Factor then had his attentions switched to chasing at the start of this campaign and it’s fair to say that he failed to sparkle in his first three starts. However, he then took a big step back in the right direction when a keeping on 8 3/4 lengths third of nine to the smart Paloma Blue at Leopardstown.

That was backed-up with a solid second at Fairyhouse and Impact Factor also ran very well last time out when a four-length runner-up to Cilaos Emery in a hot 17-runner beginners chase at Gowran Park. The fourth home that day Ex Patriot has since come and and won, so that gives the form a solid look.

This is a far less taxing affair and Impact Factor is officially the highest rated in the line-up off 134. Everything suggests that this is a golden opportunity for him to get his head in front, so that’s why we had to make Impact Factor our next best bet on the card.

Treacysenniscorthy a tasty each-way play

In the 3m handicap hurdle (15:20), Treacysenniscorthy looks decent each-way value following an eye-catching effort last time out. That run came at Navan where the Pat Flynn trained seven-year-old finished a 12 3/4 lengths fifth of 23 to Askari on handicap debut and shaped far better than the eventual distance he was beaten suggests.

After racing in mid-division under Paul Townend, the son of Beneficial made stealthy headway out wide entering the straight. Treacysenniscorthy then improved to dispute the lead three from home, before weakening after jumping the second last. He was not knocked about once it was clear he would not be winning, and the way in which he travelled for much of the contest suggested there was better to come.

It was also a huge step up on three previous runs and one which suggested Treacysenniscorthy had been brought along firmly with handicaps in mind by his shrewd handler. The fact that he was sent off 11/1 that day – having been sent off at 66/1, 100/1 and 66/1 in his three qualifying runs – backs up that view as better was clearly expected.

It looks significant that connections have once again booked Townend, who rode him for the first time that day, to do the steering and Treacysenniscorthy is able to race in this off an unchanged mark of 99.

That looks workable and, after just four starts, the gelding remains unexposed and open to significant progress. So, at the odds on offer, Treacysenniscorthy makes plenty of appeal and thus features as the each-way punt and completes these Punchestown betting tips for February 10.
