Dipper Novices’ Chase Betting Tips

The Dipper Novices’ Chase betting tips given by Bettng.org say Black Op is worth a bet to build on a promising chasing debut and land the spoils in the Grade 2 contest over 2m 4f at Cheltenham on Tuesday, 1 January. In-form trainer Nicky Henderson saddles exciting chase recruit On The Blind Side, so is feared most. Defi Du Seuil, meanwhile, scored in good style last time out, so is another who cannot be ruled out despite having to give away weight all-round under a penalty. Our detailed Dipper Novices’ Chase betting tips preview below has more details on these horses’ chances.

Black Op the one to be on in Dipper Novices’ Chase

Black Op shaped with stacks of promise on debut over the larger obstacles, so looks the answer to a classy renewal of the Grade 2 Dipper Novices’ Chase over 2m 4f at Cheltenham on New Year’s Day (13:25) now stepped back up in trip. This Tom George trained eight-year-old was a top class hurdler last season.

After finishing a cracking  a 2 3/4 lengths second of 14 to Samcro in the Grade 1 Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival, he rounded off the campaign with a taking display when landing a Grade 1 at the Aintree Grand National meeting. Black Op showed tremendous battling qualities in the latter and it was a performance which earned him an official rating of 151.

However, connections always maintained that he would make up into an even better chaser, and there was plenty to like about his debut over the larger obstacles when a 4 1/4 lengths third of seven to Defi Du Seuil over 2m 3f at Exeter last month. After racing prominently throughout and travelling strongly, the son of Sandmason got outpaced when the tempo quickened turning for home.

He then kept on well without being given a hard time and it was a display which suggested there was much better to come. The extra furlong in this is sure to suit Black Op and he also now meets the winner, who had the benefit of a previous outing, on 3lb better terms. That should be enough to see him gain revenge on that rival, so that’s why Black Op has to feature as the main selection in our Dipper Novices’ Chase betting tips.

On The Blind Side feared most on chasing debut

Trainer Nicky Henderson has has won two of the last five renewals courtesy of Oscar Whisky (2014) and Whisper (2017). His sole representative this time around is On The Blind Side, who looked a hugely exciting prospect last season when winning his first three starts over hurdles.

In the last of those, the son of Stowaway could not have been more impressive when landing the 2m 4f Grade 2 Winter Novices’ Hurdle at Sandown. On The Blind Side quickened up smartly before forging up the Esher hill to easily beat Springtown Lake by nine lengths.

It was a stunning display, especially as he was giving 5lb all-round to a field which included five previous winners. Injury then ruled On The Blind Side out of the Cheltenham Festival, and he clearly wasn’t right when sent off the 11/8 favourite following a lengthy break and finishing a nine-length sixth of 12 to Black op in the aforementioned Grade 1 at Aintree.

On The Blind Side has since had a breathing operation and is currently a best-price 20/1 in the ante post betting for the JLT Novices’ Chase at the Cheltenham Festival in March. If he is to be considered a leading contender for that contest, then he has to go close to winning this. Hence he is expected to give Black Op most to think about and feared most.

Defi Du Seuil another with leading claims

Defi Du Seuil scored in good style last time out at Exeter and had Black Op behind him in third, so is another with claims in a fascinating renewal – despite having to shoulder a 3lb penalty and give weight all-round. This Philip Hobbs trained six-year-old was a top class juvenile hurdler in 2017 when unbeaten in seven starts.

Those successes included victory in the Grade 1 Triumph Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival and Defi Du Seuil has a fine record at this venue, having won four of his five starts. His sole defeat at the track came on chasing debut in the Arkle Trial in November when trailing in a distant last of five five to Lalor when never travelling or jumping well.

However, he left that outing well behind when running on strongly to beat Topofthegame by 3 1/2 lengths at Exeter. Judged on that display he has a big future over fences, but giving weight to some classy rivals is no easy task. That’s why he is passed over in our Dipper Novices’ Chase betting tips on this occasion in favour of Black Op.
