Firth Of Clyde Stakes Betting Tips: Firelight taken to land Group 3 juvenile contest at Ayr

The Firth Of Clyde Stakes tips given by Betting.org experts say Firelight is worth a wager to land the spoils in the Group 3 juvenile fillies’ contest. Queen Jo Jo is one of two Kevin Ryan runners and feared most in the 6f contest at Ayr on Saturday, 22 September. Her stable companion Glass Slippers is progressing, meanwhile, and appeals each-way. Firelight can collect in Firth Of Clyde for in-form Balding

Firelight has winning form on soft ground, so looks the answer to the 6f Group 3 Firth Of Clyde Stakes for juvenile fillies at Ayr on Saturday (15:15). She has won two of her five starts and hails from the in-form yard of Andrew Balding, who is operating at a strike rate of 25 per cent in the last 14 days at the time of writing.

The daughter of Oasis Dream came good at the second time of asking when digging deep to beat Short Skirt by a nose at Kempton. She went on to follow-up in similarly gutsy fashion when rallying strongly to get back up close home and beat Lady Aria by a neck on soft ground at Newmarket.

Connections then pitched Firelight into Group 2 company and she ran very well to finish a close-up fourth to Fairyland in the Lowther Stakes at York. After being held-up, she had to be switched left to make a challenge a furlong from home when short of room.

Firelight stayed on nicely to be beaten just two lengths without being unduly knocked about; it was a career-best effort and one suggested there was even better to come. Although Fshe wasn’t so good last time out when fourth in a Group 3 at Salisbury, that was a muddingly run affair where, after being held-up, she didn’t have the pace to get involved but did stay on well at the death.

Those runs have earned Firelight an official rating of 100 – it’s the second highest in the line-up and just 2lb below that of market leader Queen Of Bermuda. Given that rival has raced on on quick ground, she looks worth taking on given the testing conditions. There are no worries as regards ground for Firelight, so she had to be the main selection in our 2018 Firth Of Clyde Stakes betting tips.

Queen Jo Jo feared most

Queen Jo Jo is one of two runners saddled by Kevin Ryan and has a progressive profile. She has only had three starts and ran a cracker in the last of those when third to Fairyland in the aforementioned Group 2 Lowther Stakes where she stayed on well to be beaten two lengths.

She finished a nose in front of Firelight, so there is little between the pair of form. Prior to that, Queen Jo Jo had got off the mark when landing an 11-runner novice stakes contest at Beverley by 1 1/4 lengths from Ginvincible. The daughter of Gregorian was well on top at the finish and value for much more than the winning margin.

Judged on her run in the Lowther, she is clearly going the right way and should be up to winning a race of this nature as she still looks far from the finished article. However, all her runs have been on good-to-firm ground, so whether she will be as effective on this much slower surface is questionable.

Queen Jo Jo looks more of a speedster than a grinder and this is likely to turn into a war of attrition given underfoot conditions. So, for that reason alone, we are siding with Firelight to come out on top on this occasion and turn around the Lowther form in doing so.

Glass Slippers another Ryan inmate with claims

Ryan’s other runner is Glass Slippers, who comes into the race right in tip top shape having won her last two starts. She is another with claims in a wide-open looking renewal of the Firth Of Clyde and makes plenty of each-way appeal.

This daughter of Group 1 winning sprinter Dream Ahead broke her duck at the third time of asking when scoring decisively by two lengths in a 14-runner novice stakes contest at Beverley. She then showed a very willing attitude to follow-up at Chester three weeks ago when beating Light My Fire, who re-opposes in this, by a neck.

Although only winning by a narrow margin, that does not tell the whole story as Glass Slippers came from way off the pace and finished off powerfully to win going away and a shade cosily. It’s not easy to win on that manner around the tight runs of the Roodee – especially as a juvenile – so it is a run which can be upgraded.

There was also a bit of juice in the ground that day, despite the official going being given as good, so there are reasons to believe that Glass Slippers will cope with the testing conditions here. This does represent a big step up in class but, like her stable companion, she is improving with every outing and looks well worth a crack at this level.
