Irish Lincolnshire Betting Tips

Betting.org experts give their Irish Lincolnshire betting tips for the valuable 1m Premier Handicap at Naas on the official opening day of the 2019 Irish Flat racing season on Sunday, 24 March. Karawaan looks on a handy mark on debut for trainer Ger Lyons, so is the main selection. Charcor is another that looks weighted to go well on the pick of his form and therefore rates the main danger. Marshall Jennings, meanwhile, is another with claims in a wide-open renewal given his course form, so appeals each-way. Our detailed 2019 Irish Lincolnshire betting tips preview below has more on this big race in Ireland.

Karawaan has a big shout in Irish Lincolnshire

The big betting race on the opening day of the 2019 Flat season in Ireland at Naas on Sunday is the Irish Lincolnshire (16:10), and Karawaan looks decent value to land the spoils in the 1m Premier Handicap on his first start for Ger Lyons. This five-year-old was once considered a smart prospect when trained by Sir Michael Stoute and lurks on a handy mark.

He came good at the fourth time of asking when sluicing up by four lengths at Chelmsford off an official rating of 84, and was sent off favourite on all three of his starts last season when making the frame twice. In the first of those at Newcastle, he went down by just over a length when third to Elysees Palace on handicap debut off a mark of 83.

Newcastle run is good form

The winner has won again since, whilst the runner-up Rainbow Rebel has gone on to taste success on four occasions to be rated 105. That gives the form a strong look, especially as Karawaan was attempting to give 12lb to Elysees Palace and 1lb to Rainbow Rebel.

That run was followed by a solid second to Nayel at Haydock and prior to a below par effort at Kempton when a well beaten ninth of 14. Karawaan now returns to the fray following 270 days on the sidelines, but has gone well fresh in the past and is able to race off an uncharged rating of 83 on his first start for the shrewd Lyons.

It makes him a big player at the weights on the pick of his form and his handler has a good record with new recruits. So, in typically wide-open and fierce renewal, Karawaan looks the dark horse in the line-up and narrow gets the vote as the main selection in our 2019 Irish Lincolnshire betting tips.

Charcor the pick of Harrington duo

Trainer Jessica Harrington saddles two interesting contenders in the shape of Charcor and Marshall Jennings. Slight preference is for the former who looks on a potentially handy mark and open to progression this season. This five-year-old came good at the second time of asking when keeping on strongly to beat Mazzuri in a seven-runner affair at Gowran Park.

Charcor then ran very well in a rated race at Killarney when second of eight to Monkeylou and arguably an unlucky loser. After losing vital ground when being slowly away, the son of Choisir quickly found himself playing catch-up with a mountain to climb.

It was to his credit that he responded generously to his riders urgings and finished to great effect to be beaten just half-a-length. Charcor was gaining hand over fist at the finish and, given how the race panned out, it was an excellent effort off an official rating of 93.

He was also far from disgraced on handicap debut when a seven length 13 of 21 to Kenya in the Irish Cambridgeshire off the same rating, or when fifth of 16 on his final start of the campaign at Tipperary. Charcor now returns to action having been eased a further 3lb in the weights and is now able to race off a career-low rating of 86.

That makes him look a leading contender at the weights and there is undoubtedly better to come from him after just six starts as he looked far from the finished article last year. Charcor therefore had to feature in our 2019 Irish Lincolnshire betting tips and is another well worthy considering backing each-way in a race in which some bookmakers will be offering enhanced placed terms.

Marshall Jennings another each-way player

The aforementioned Marshall Jennings has to shoulder top weight of 9st 12lb, but does have a good record at the track, so is another well worth considering from an each-way puting perspective. This seven-year-old has won two of his three starts over course and distance and posted some solid efforts in good company.

The last of those successes came in May of last year where he kept on strongly to beat Tony The Gent by 1 1/2 lengths in a 13-runner affair off a mark of 95. Marshall Jennings has only managed to make the frame once in seven subsequent outings, but that saw him finish a fine 4 1/2 lengths third to I Can Fly in a Listed contest at Killarney off an official rating of 100.

He is now able to race off 98 and that should enable him to be very competitive, as he has been rated as high as 103 in the past. Young rider Tom Madden also takes off a handy 3lb with his claim; so, if taking that into account, he is running off the same mark as when last victorious.

Marshall Jennings’ last win also comes after a lengthy break, so the fact that he has not raced for 168 days is unlikely to be an issue. He therefore has more positives than negatives going for him and features as another possible each-way punt in these 2019 Irish Lincolnshire betting tips.
