Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle Series Final Betting Tips

Betting.org experts give their Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle Series Final betting tips. Off The Hook is a progressive sort who looks ahead of her mark, so is taken to land the spoils in the extended 2m 4f Grade 2 feature handicap at Newbury on Saturday, 23 March. Etamine Du Cochet represents last year’s winning trainer Dan Skelton and comes into the race on the back of some solid efforts, so therefore rates the main danger. Millarville, meanwhile, is a lightly-raced and unexposed sort who looks weighted to go well under champion jockey Richard Johnson, so therefore appeals each-way. Our in-depth 2019 Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle Series Final betting tips preview below has full details on these horses’ chances.

Off The Hook value to land Mares’ Final

The feature race at Newbury on Saturday is the Grade 2 Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle Series Final (15:15), and Off The Hook looks decent value to land the spoils in the valuable 2m 4f contest. Trained in Scotland by Nick Alexander, this seven-year-old has showed progressive form in four outings this season and looks potentially ahead of her handicap mark.

She ran a stormer on her penultimate outing at Haydock when third of seven to Queenofhearts in a Listed contest over 2m 2f when staying on strongly to go down by just 1 3/4 lengths. The winner is a smart sort who is now rated 135 and the fourth home, Papagana, won a Listed race at Doncaster next time up.

Haydock form looks strong

That gives the form a solid look, and Off The Hook has since gone on to open her account over the obstacles when landing a 17-runner maiden hurdle over 2m 4f at Ayr in gutsy fashion. She found plenty for pressure to beat Sam’s Adventure, who has won since, by half-a-length off an official rating of 121.

Off The Hook is able to race in this off the same rating and that gives her a huge shout from a handicapping perspective, especially judged on her aforementioned run behind Queenofhearts. She is clearly going the right way and looks the type who has more improvement left in the locker.

It’s also interesting that the daughter of Getaway will be the first-ever runner at the Berkshire venue for Alexander and this has clearly been her long-term target. So, with underfoot conditions fine, everything looks in place for a huge run and Off The Hook thus features as the main selection in these 2019 Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle Series Final betting tips.

Etamine Du Cochet a key player for Skelton

Trainer Dan Skelton won the race last year with Roksana and looks to have another leading contender this time around in the shape of Etamine Du Cochet. This five-year-old is a lightly-raced and consistent sort who ran a cracker on debut back in November 2017 when a 10-length runner-up to the now 160 rated We Have A dream.

The daughter of Martaline was then on the sidelines for 344 days, yet showed she retained plenty of ability when finishing second in both her first two starts this season. Etamine Du Cochet then bombed out when pulled-up at Ludlow, but quickly bounced back to get off the mark when landing a 10-runner maiden hurdle at Huntington by half-a-length from Poperinghe Ginger off an official rating of 115.

Huntingdon winner

She made most and found plenty on the run-in to fend off the persistent challenge of the runner-up, and the pair pulled 18 lengths clear of the third home. Etamine Du Cochet has since run well to finish a 1 1/2 lengths third at Uttoxeter where she again attempted to make all and only weakened close home having travelled strongly for most of the contest.

The assessor has allotted her an opening handicap mark of 115 of the back of those efforts, and that could well underestimate her ability. She is also one from two over the trip, hails from a yard in good nick and has the services of the in-form Harry Skelton in the saddle.

So, taking everything into account, Etamine Du Cochet has plenty going for her and looks weighted to run a huge race off just 10st 12lb. Hence she is feared most and rates the main danger, according to these 2019 Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle Series Final betting tips, to Off The Hook.

Millarville the each-way option

In a competitive 15-runner affair in which a case can be made for plenty, Millarville makes the most appeal from an each-way punting perspective. This six-year-old is a lightly-raced and unexposed sort that hails from the yard of Oliver Sherwood, who has a good record with his representatives in this kind of contest.

After impressively winning her sole Irish point, the daughter of Court Cave ran a shocker on her first start for the Lambourn-based handler when a well-beaten eighth of 10 at Warwick having been sent off a well-backed 3/1 second-favourite.

Bounced back at Fontwell

Something was clearly amiss and, following wind surgery, Millarville showed that running to be all wrong when travelling strongly throughout and comfortably beating So Lonely by 2 1/4 lengths in an 11-runner maiden at Fontwell. It was a most taking display and Millarville has since finished a solid third to The Cull Bank at the same venue.

Although no match for the easy winner, Millarville stuck to the task well despite making costly mistakes at the final two flights. Given that she was attempting to give 7lb to The Cull Bank, who is an exciting prospect that has won again since, it was a fine effort in defeat.

Judged on that run, an opening handicap mark of 120 looks more than fair and Millarville now gets the services in the saddle of champion jockey Richard Johnson for the first time. He does well when teaming up with the yard, so at the odds on offer Millarville had to feature as the each-way punt and thus completes these 2019 Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle Series Final betting tips.
