Kelso Betting Tips

The Kelso betting tips for March 2 see Betting.org experts give their three best bets for the seven-race Saturday card at the Scottish Borders venue. Black Corton looks in a different league to his rivals, so rates the NAP bet in the Listed 2m 7f Premier Chase. Getaway Trump, meanwhile, ran a cracker last time out in a hot handicap and rates the next best bet in the 2m 2f Premier Kelso Hurdle. Bialco looks nicely treated on the pick of his form in the extended 2m 6f handicap hurdle that brings proceedings to a close, so therefore makes plenty of each-way appeal. Find out more about these horses in our in-depth preview with Kelso betting tips for March 2.

Black Corton impossible to oppose in Premier Chase

Black Corton is a class act who has posted some excellent efforts in defeat this season and looks to have been found a golden opportunity to get back on the scoresheet in the Listed 2m 7f Premier Chase at Kelso on Saturday. This eight-year-old, who hails from the in-form yard of Paul Nichols, enjoyed a terrific novice campaign when winning eight times.

They included when beating subsequent Ladbrokes Trophy second and Welsh Grand National winner Elegant Escape by 1 1/2 lengths in the Grade 1 Kauto Star at Kempton. Black Corton went on to follow-up in a Grade 2 at Ascot, and was then far from disgraced when a 17 1/4 length fifth of 10 to current ante post Gold Cup favourite Presenting Percy in the Grade 1 RSA Chase at the Cheltenham Festival.

The form of those races is very strong in relation to this much lower grade affair. Black Corton looked set for another good season on return to action at Wetherby back in November when a two-length runner-up to Definitly Red in the Grade 2 Charlie Hall Chase. Regular pilot Bryony Frost performed miracles to stay in the plate when he made a horrific mistake at the third.

Golden opportunity to resume winning ways

Black Corton then pulled-up in the aforementioned Ladbrokes Trophy at Newbury, but quickly bounced back when a solid five-length second to Top Notch in a Listed contest at Kempton. He also ran very well at Ascot 14 days ago when finding only Calipto 2 1/4 lengths too good.

Those performances have earned Black Corton an official rating of 157. It is the highest in the line-up and, although One For Arthur is rated 154 and receives 3lb from him, the 2017 Grand National hero is yet to complete in two starts this season since returning to action following a lengthy spell on the sidelines through injury.

Black Corton’s other three rivals have very little to recommend them, so on all known form this looks his for the taking. That’s why we had no hesitation in making him the the NAP selection in our Kelso betting tips for March 2.

Getaway Trump can secure big-race double for Nicholls

Ditcheat handler Nicholls looks to have outstanding claims of landing a quick-fire big-race double on the card with Getaway Trump in the Grade 2 Premier Kelso Hurdle for novices over 2m 2f (15:15). This six-year-old is a progressive type who has won two of his four starts over hurdles and has some very strong form in the book.

He ran a blinder on his penultimate starts at Newbury in the Grade 1 Challow Hurdle at Newbury when beaten 2 3/4 lengths by Nicky Henderson’s very highly-regarded Champ. Getaway Trump raced keenly in the early stages, but was still on the bit and travelling strongly two from home.

Challow and Betfair form set clear standard

Although he then edged left and held every chance at the last, he simply was unable to match the winner’s turn of foot on the run-in. However, Getaway Trump did stick to the task well and had some useful performers in behind. Connections decided to have a crack at the valuable Betfair Hurdle at Ascot on the back of that excellent effort.

Getaway Trump kept on well to finish a never nearer 6 3/4 lengths fourth of 14 to the ultra-progressive Al Dancer in what is one of the hottest 2m handicap hurdles of the season. He was given plenty to do that day and arguably should have finished closer. Nonetheless, it was still a top class effort given how the race panned out and makes Getaway Trump look the one to be on in this now returned to novice company.

The form of that race, and his run in the Challow, set a clear standard and a repeat of either should see him comfortably land the spoils. Hence he rates the next best net on the card and is fully expected to justify favouritism. Getaway Trump is also readily put up among these Kelso betting tips for March 2.

Bialco weighted to go well in finale

In the 2m 6f handicap hurdle that bring proceedings to a close on the track’s biggest day of the season (17:05), Bialco looks worth an each-way wager having slipped down the weights. This gelding had some dcenet form to his name when trained in France and ran well on his second start for trainer Lucinda Russell when fifth of 11 to Tommy Rapper in a class 2 contest at Haydock off a mark of 128.

The son of Dom Alco totally belied his odds of 66/1, making progress from the rear three form home before taking up the running at the next. Bialco then only got headed after the last, but stuck on well to go down by just four lengths. That race has thrown-up plenty of subsequent winners, and he went on to finish runner-up in his next three starts when sent off well-backed on each occasion.

Although his return to action at Newcastle last month when pulled-up was underwhelming, the stable is now in better form and Bialco has been eased a further 2lb in the weights. He’s now able to race in this class 3 affair off a career-low rating of 123 and that gives him major claims at the weights, judged on his Haydock run which came in much better company. Thus Bialco features as the each-way punt and completes these Kelso betting tips for March 2.
