Royal Lodge Stakes Betting Tips: Beatboxer Taken to Call the Tune at Newmarket

Betting.org experts give their 2018 Royal Lodge Stakes betting tips. They say the John Gosden trained Beatboxer is the bet to land the spoils in the Group 2 juvenile contest at Newmarket and further enhance his trainer’s excellent record in the 1m race on Saturday, 29 September. The Aidan O’Brien trained Cape Of Good Hope chased home a subsequent Group 1 winner last time out, so is feared most. Arthur Kitt has some strong form in the book and is the highest rated, so looks a solid each-way option. Full details on these horses’ chances can be found by reading our in-depth 2018 Royal Lodge Stakes betting tips preview.

Beatboxer can capture more Royal Lodge glory for Gosden

Trainer John Gosden has a good record in the Royal Lodge Stakes and Beatboxer looks worth a wager to further enhance it with victory in this year’s renewal of the Group 2 juvenile colts contest over 1m at Newmarket on Saturday (13:50). The Newmarket handler has won the race on five occasions, including two of the last four runnings, and saddled Roaring Lion to victory 12 months ago.

In Beatboxer, he has a colt who is unbeaten in two starts and looks a hugely exciting prospect destined for big things. After forging clear inside the last to easily beat Venedgar by two lengths in a nine-runner maiden over 7f at Sandown, the son of Scat Daddy pulverised the opposition when landing a six-runner novice stakes contest over 1m at Haydock.

Beatboxer made made virtually all in the hands of Frankie Dettori and cruised effortlessly clear two from home to beat Rajinsky, who has won since, by 3 3/4 lengths. He scored with consummate ease and it was a visually impressive display which oozed class.

It was a performance which suggested Beatboxer was a well above average sort who should be up to winning races at this level. His proven winning form over the 1m trip of this is a big plus and, given his run-style so far, there will be no hiding places for his rivals.

So, with Dettori once again in the saddle, Beatboxer had to be the main selection in our 2018 Royal Lodge Stakes betting tips and is taken to complete the hat-trick en route to bigger and better things.

Irish raider Cape Of Good Hope feared most

Like Gosden, top Irish trainer Aidan o’Brien has also won the race on five occasions. The Ballydoyle maestro saddles three this time around and Cape Of Good Hope looks the clear pick of the trio judged on his excellent second last time out.

That run came in the Group 2 Superlative Stakes over 7f on the July course at this venue where he was beaten 3 3/4 lengths by the hugely exciting Quorto. The beautifully bred son of Galileo out of a Danehill mare attempted to make all, but had no answer to the winner’s turn of foot when headed at the furlong marker.

However, Cape Of Good Hope stuck to the task well and, given that Quorto has gone on to beat his highly-rated stable companion Anthony Van Dyck in impressive fashion in the Group 1 National Stakes at The Curragh to make it three on the bounce, the form has a solid look to it and  reads well in relation to this contest.

It was also a career-best from Cape Of Good Hope who had previously opened his account at the third time of asking when making all and staying on strongly to land extended 7f contest at Tipperary. The extra furlong of this looks sure to suit, and Cape Of Good Hope is clearly going the right way. He therefore rates the main danger to Beatboxer.

Arthur Kitt sure to give it his best shot

The Tom Dascombe trained Arthur Kitt is a likeable type who has won two of his three starts and is officially the highest rated in the line-up off 107. It put him 1lb ahead of Cape Of Good Hope and 10lb clear of Beatboxer, so he is another with claims in a competitive renewal and looks a solid each-way betting option.

After winning his first two starts, landing the Listed Chesham Stakes at Royal Ascot in game fashion on the second of those, Arthur Kitt lost little in defeat last time out when runner-up to Too Darn Hot in the Group 3 Solario Stakes at Sandown. The son of Camelot attempted to make all and quickly had many rivals under pressure when kicking on round the home turn.

The sole exception was Too Darn Hot who, once heading him at the furlong marker, quickened clear to win impressively by four lengths. However, Arthur Kitt did stick to the task well and pulled 3 3/4 lengths of the third.

That gives the form a solid look – especially as Too Darn Hot has gone on to land the Group 2 Champagne Stakes at Doncaster in scintillating fashion and is arguably the best juvenile seen this season.

On what we have seen so far, Arthur Kitt will not shirk the issue should it come down to a battle. He looks sure to give it his best shot and has leading claims of at least making the frame, so makes plenty of each-way appeal.
