Vinndication taken to run rivals Scilly

Vinndication looks a worthy favourite to land the spoils in a fascinating renewal of the Grade 1 Scilly Isles Novices’ Chase over 2m 4f at Sandown on Saturday (14:25). This Kim Bailey trained six-year-old is unbeaten in six starts and looks a very exciting capable of going right to the very top.

After landing a Ludlow bumper on debut under rules in November 2017, the son of Vinnie Roe made a most taking hurdling debut over 2m 4f at Leicester when a 4 1/2 lengths winner over Coolanly. Vinndication then followed-up in game fashion in a six-runner contest at Ascot when staying on strongly to beat Champ by a neck.

The runner-up is a hugely talented sort who is unbeaten in four starts since and currently ante post favourite for the Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle at next month’s Cheltenham Festival, having landed a Grade 1 in grand style when last seen in action. That gives the form a very strong look and Vinndication went on to round off the campaign with a smooth a 3 1/4 lengths success over Western Ryder in a Listed contest at Huntingdon.

Unbeaten under rules

That win suggested he had the potential to be a very useful staying hurdler, but connections always maintained his future was a a chaser and he’s taken really well to the larger obstacles in winning both his starts this season.

After scoring in game fashion at Carlisle when jumping well and finding plenty to beat Uncle Alistair by two lengths, he took the step up into Grade 2 company in his stride when comfortably bearing Jerrysback in the Noel Novices’ Chase at Ascot when again putting in a fine round of jumping.

Those success have earned Vinndication an official chase rating of 151, the joint-highest in the field along with Defi Du Seuil. Given that rival appeared not to get home when beaten by Lostintranslation over the trip last time out at Cheltenham, Vinndication is taken to come out on top as he is a proven stayer who relishes a battle. Hence he features as the standout punt in our Sandown betting tips for February 2.

Lots to like about class-dropping Le Prezien

In the 2m handicap chase earlier ron the card (13:15), Le Prezien is taken to defy top weight and get back to winning ways no eased in grade. This JP McManus owned eight-year-old, who hails from the in-form yard of Dictheat handler Paul Nicholls, was a very smart juvenile hurdler in 2015-16 when winning three of his eight starts and placing on four other occasions.

He ran his best race in defeat when a cracking 2 1/4 lengths runner-up to Yorkhill in a Grade 1 at Aintree. Le Prezien had his attention switched to chasing after that and has developed into a really useful handicapper.

He has won three times and enjoyed his finest hour in the last of those, when asserting after the last to readily beat Gino Trial by 4 1/2 lengths in the 22-runner Grade 3 Grand Annual Chase at last year’s Cheltenham Festival off a mark of 150.

Grand Annual form gives him big shout

That is a very hot handicap and the form reads really well in the contest of this much lower grade class 2 affair – in which Le Prezien has to race off just 4lb higher. It gives him major claims at the weights in a race which should be run to suit as there are plenty of front runners in line-up who could well cut each others throats and set it up for a closer like the him.

Le Prezien will also find this much easier than when pulled-up in the Grade 2 Shloer Chase at Cheltenham last time out when sent off the 5/2 second-favourite. Prior to that, he had shaped really nicely when a three-length runner-up to Silver streak on seasonal reappearance in the Welsh Champion Hurdle at Ffos Las.

So, given that he has proven winning form on the forecast ground, and 33 per cent strike rate in the grade, Le Prezien’s claims in this look rock solid. Hence he features as our next best bet among our Sandown betting tips for February 2 on a cracking seven-race card.

Sweet on the chances of Kimberlite Candy each-way

Kimberlite Candy ran too bad to be true last time out and, if bouncing back, looks a lively outsider and each-way player in the 3m handicap chase (15:35). That run came in the Tommy Whittle Chase at Haydock where the Tom Tracey trained seven-year-old was never travelling at any stage and eventually trailed in a distant ninth of 11 to Daklondike.

Prior to that, he won three of his nine starts over fences in the manner of a progressive sort. In the last of those at Ayr, this son of Flemensfirth produced a career-best performance when beating Silver Tassie by 2 3/4 lengths off a mark of 133. After racing in touch in the hands of a confident Richie McLernon, the McManus owned gelding took up the running travelling strongly three from home.

Value bet to make frame

Kimberlite Candy was then challenged by the eventual runner-up two from home, but found plenty when asked and stayed on strongly to win with plenty in hand. It was a most taking performance and one which suggested there were bigger pots to be won with him.

Given the authority with which Kimberlite Candy got the job done, his current mark of 137 should not be beyond him – especially as he has always been held in the highest regard and will relish the forecast soft ground.

So, with McLernon once again in the saddle, it would be no surprise to see Kimberlite Candy show his Haydock run to be all wrong and make his presence felt in this. That’s why, at the double figure odds on offer, he features as our each-way punt and thus completes these Sandown betting tips for February 2.
