Superior Mile Stakes Betting Tips: Regal Reality Ready to Rock in Haydock Group 3

Betting.org experts say Regal Reality is worth a bet to provide trainer Sir Michael Stoute with another winner in the Group 3 Superior Mile Stakes at Haydock on Saturday, 8 September. Emmaus has his ideal underfoot conditions and is feared most. Here Comes When also revels in the mud and has Group 1 success on his CV, so is another with leading claims. Regal Reality a worthy favourite for Superior Mile Stakes glory

The unexposed and progressive Regal Reality looks a worthy favourite to provide trainer Sir Michael Stoute with another winner of the Group 3 Superior Mile Stakes on Sprint Cup day at Haydock on Saturday (14:25). Stoute has won the race a joint-record three times thanks to Linngari (2005), Confront (2009) and Ballet Concerto (2017).

In Regal Reality, he has colt who has won two of his three starts and looks an exciting prospect destined for better things. After shaping with promise on seasonal reappearance when a tenderly handled fourth of nine to subsequent Group 1 winner Without Parole in a Listed contest sat Sandown, the three-year-old son of Intello scored impressively in the Group 3 Thoroughbred Stakes at Goodwood when coming from off the pace down the outside of the field to beat Ostilio by 1 3/4 lengths.

Regal Reality won going away at the line, so this victory was one with real authority as the runner-up went into the contest at the top of his game having landed his previous two starts. The third home Chief Ironside has also come out and run well since to finish third in another Group 3 at York, so the form has a solid look to it.

It was a very striking performance visually from Regal Reality, who still looks far from the finished article and will undoubtedly keep on improving with each outing. This does look far more competitive than the Thoroughbred and demands more, but there is no questioning that he has bags of untapped potential.

Winning form on soft ground is another plus for Regal Reality, and he also receives a handy 2lb weight-for age allowance from his elders. So, taking everything into account, there is nothing not to like about his profile for this and he therefore had to be the main punt in our 2018 Superior Mile Stakes betting tips.

Emmaus feared most under ideal conditions

With the going soft-to-heavy at the time of writing, Emmaus now has his ideal underfoot conditions. It’s a case of the softer the better for this Roger Varian trained four-year-old, as he showed on seasonal reappearance when forging clear to land a Listed contest at Leicester on bottomless ground by 1 1/2 lengths for Donjuan Triumphant.

Emmaus has not been disgraced in two subsequent outings in better company, finishing a 3 3/4 lengths 10th of 12 to Sir Dancealot in a Group 2 at Goodwood and third in a Group 3 at Deauville last month. It’s also worth bearing in mind that on his final start last season he beat that very smart rival by a nose in a handicap at Leicester – albeit in receipt of 10lb.

The son of Invincible Spirit is also very lightly-raced for his age and has won three of his six starts, so that suggests we still may not have seen the best of Emmaus. He also now gets fitted with cheekpieces for the first time and – if the new headgear has the desired effect – he looks capable of giving Regal Reality plenty to think about.

Mud-loving Here Comes When another to consider

Here Comes When has not been at his best in three starts this season, but he’s a real mud-lover and looks capable of bouncing back at this level now that the going has come in his favour. This Andrew Balding trained eight-year-old showed what he is capable of when beating Ribchester by a neck in last year’s Group 1 Sussex Stakes at Goodwood.

The veteran revelled in the bottomless ground that day and had Lightning Spear, who landed this year’s renewal of the race, a further three-quarters of a length further back in third. That is form of the highest standard which reads extremely well in relation to this lower grade affair.

Here Comes When is also two from four under jockey Oisin Murphy and hails from a yard that continues to be in fine form. At the odds on offer, he could well be the value bet in the race. A reproduction of anything like his run in the Sussex is going to make him very hard to beat, so he makes plenty of each-way appeal.
