Tingle Creek Chase Betting Tips

Tingle Creek Chase betting tips from Betting.org say the Nicky Henderson trained Altior is impossible to oppose in the Grade 1 feature race at Sandown over 2m on Saturday, 8 December. Un De Sceaux won this contest two years ago and has continued to be a force since, so can chase the red-hot favourite home. The small but select field of four is completed by Sceau Royal and Saint Calvados, with the former fancied over the latter in a match bet between the young improvers. Our in-depth 2018 Tingle Creek Chase betting tips preview below has more on this quality quartet at the Esher venue.

Altior a worthy Tingle Creek favourite

It’s madness to look past Altior as he makes his reappearance in the 2m Grade 1 Tingle Creek Chase at Sandown this Saturday (15:00). Nicky Henderson’s star two-miler has won six times at the highest level and is unbeaten over timber, so on all known form that looks set to continue despite a talented trio over rivals up against him.

The eight-year-old is nine out of nine over fences and three from three over course and distance. Altior had just five hurdles starts in 2015-16 – a campaign that culminated in Supreme glory at the Cheltenham Festival.

This son of High Chaparral then went chasing and absolutely dotted up on his debut at Kempton when smashing Black Corton by 63 lengths. It’s worth remembering that the runner-up in this two-horse race would also land Grade 1 success in the Kauto Star last Christmas.

Having made an almost flawless debut over fences, Altior then registered his first course and distance victory at Sandown when sprinting clear after a great jump at the last to land the Henry VIII Novices’ Chase by half-a-dozen lengths. He next made mincemeat of his rivals when eased in grade for the Wayward Lad back at Kempton and then took aim at open company.

Proven course form

Altior confirmed his very special talent when making most to score by 13 lengths in the Game Spirit Chase, and went to the 2017 Cheltenham Festival as a red-hot favourite for the Arkle off the back of these exploits. Everything fell right for him there, as he was left in front by a faller two out and only needed to be ridden out after the last for another facile six-length romp.

He rounded off his 2016-17 campaign by readily disposing of the Queen Mother Champion Chase winner Special Tiara in the Celebration Chase by eight lengths. The scary thing was seeing Altior bounding clear up the Sandown hill and dispatching the UK’s champion 2m chaser with such consummate ease.

Everything pointed to Altior being a force to be reckoned with again last season but, although connections aimed him at this 12 months ago, he needed a wind op and missed the Tingle Creek. When he was ready to return though, he shrugged Politologue – who had triumphed in his absence – easily aside when making a ready defence of his Game Spirit crown at Newbury in February.

With the world at his feet, Altior was again well-backed heading to Cheltenham for the Champion Chase. An eleventh hour scare saw Henderson find him lame in the immediate build-up to the big one, but quick treatment ensured one of the star attractions took his place at the Festival.

Remarkable Champion Chase victory

Despite that hellish preparation, Altior challenged in between the last two and took things up following the final fence and came with his usual potent turn of foot to thwart Min by seven lengths. This confirmed the Supreme form of a couple of years ago to boot.

A third course and distance victory – and second in the Celebration – followed on his final start of last season with Altior fending off spirited resistance from San Benedeto to draw clear inside the last 100 yards and score by 3 3/4 lengths. He is now rated 175 over fences – a mark which off level weights gives him 7lb and upwards clear of his three rivals here.

Given all he has achieved, and the fact he’s never lost a race over obstacles, Altior is the real deal. He is readily expected to extend his undefeated streak to 15 hurdles and chase starts here and thus is the main selection of these Tingle Creek Chase betting tips.

Un De Sceaux the obvious forecast flutter

Only three dare to oppose the awesome Altior, and the nearest to him on official figures is Un De Sceaux, whose own collection of nine Grade 1 victories is no less impressive than the red-hot favourite. Willie Mullins’ 10-year-old isn’t getting any younger though, but looks the clear pick of the remainder to chase Altior home.

As he’s landed 12 of his 18 starts over fences, finishing second on the other four occasions he’s got round, Un De Sceaux has maintained his form despite his advancing years. His CV contains the Irish and English Arkle double in 2015, the last three Clarence House Chases, this race two years ago, the 2017 Ryanair Chase and the 2018 Punchestown Champion Chase.

Only Sprinter Sacre, Fox Norton and Balko Des Flos have beaten Un De Sceaux over fences when he’s completed. On the pick of his form and at his peak, he was rated just 3lb below Altior. Age has proved no barrier to success for him either, as he won four of his five starts last season.

Multiple Grade 1 winner

A bold round of jumping in the Ryanair was arguably a career best from Un De Sceaux, and he finished 2017 off by smashing Top Gamble by 25 lengths in the Grade 2 Hilly Way Chase at Cork. He was a very ready winner of a third Clarence House when scoring by seven lengths in January.

Although headed after three out when trying to defend his Ryanair crown, Un De Sceaux still stayed on for second and pulled a further eight lengths clear of the third. He then went in at Grade 2 level at Fairyhouse on his penultimate start and finished the campaign off with Punchestown Festival glory when again making all.

There is a considerable gap of 7lb to find on current ratings between him and Altior, however, and that looks a tough ask for Un De Sceaux. He isn’t open to further improvement, but makes for a solid straight forecast bet to chase the lauded favourite home – according to these Tingle Creek Chase betting tips.

Sceau Royal can Saint Calvados match

The other two in the race have an absolute mountain to climb on official figures to get close to the market principals. With no each-way betting available, a match wager with Sceau Royal triumphing over fellow young chaser Saint Calvados in-behind is suggested.

Although the pair are rated just 1lb apart, the Alan King trained Sceau Royal is a Grade 1 winner over course and distance having put his most impressive display in to date in the Henry VIII on this card 12 months ago. The six-year-old was earlier sixth in the 2017 Champion Hurdle and then landed two of his first three chase starts at Warwick.

Sceau Royal, who is owned by Simon Munir and Isaac Souede, is a half-brother of Un De Sceaux that stalked the leaders from four out, progressing to hit the front before the final fence under Daryl Jacob here. He was already well in command when jumping the last, where he was left clear to run out an a ready 11 lengths winner.

Having then shouldered a penalty when eased in grade for the Lightning Novices’ Chase at Doncaster and scoring by a couple of lengths, Sceau Royal missed the tail end of last season. He then made a winning reappearance in the Grade 2 Shloer Chase at Cheltenham last month where he again chased the leaders and challenged after three out, took it up in between the last two and ran on well asserting close home.

This is a level of form that is superior to that achieved by Saint Calvados, who may be the least exposed but has only won one Grade 2 and a Grade 3. That match bet with Sceau Royal coming out on top completes our Tingle Creek Chase betting tips.
