Navan Betting Tips For April 28

Betting.org experts give their Navan betting tips for April 28. In the Listed 1m 2f Salsabil Stakes for three-year-old fillies, Aidan O’Brien trained Oaks hope Pink Dogwood rates the NAP bet of the seven-race card to resume winning ways. The other Listed race on the card is the extended 5f Committed Stakes and terms look to be in the favour of Joseph O’Brien filly Cava, so she is the next best bet. In the feature Group 3 Vintage Crop Stakes over 1m 5f, although Capri is well clear on official figures, the each-way value could be the improving Whirling Dervish for Jessica Harrington. Read all about these horses’ chance in our detailed preview with Navan betting tips for April 28.

Pink Dogwood can resume winning ways on Navan reappearance

A cracking seven-race card at Navan this Sunday includes three top-level events. In the Listed 1m 2f Salsabil Stakes for three-year-old fillies (15:40), leading Aidan O’Brien Oaks contender Pink Dogwood looks well worth a wager to resume winning ways.

This daughter of Camelot brings progressive juvenile form to the table having chased home the very handy Lady Kaya on debut at The Curragh, then filled the same spot behind Trethias at that venue. Unlike that re-opposing rival, however, Pink Dogwood has won since making all and bolting up by seven lengths at Gowran Park.

Denied clear run at Longchamp

Connections had no hesitation pitching her straight into Group 1 company on the back of that victory. Pink Dogwood was luckless in-running during the Prix Marcel Boussac on Arc weekend when swamped inside the final furlong and denied a clear run in the closing stages. She was only beaten 1 1/2 lengths by Lily’s Candle in a blanket finish.

Those exploits have earned Pink Dogwood an opening official rating of 104 which puts her 6lb and upwards clear of the field from those with a mark. The O’Brien stable is bang in-form on a phenomenal 46 per cent strike rate in the last 14 days at the time of writing and Ryan Moore again takes the ride.

Taking all that into account – if Pink Dogwood is to be taken seriously as a contender for Epsom – she should be winning this comfortably. Although up against some unexposed fillies, she thus rates the NAP of these Navan betting tips for April 28 now eased significantly in grade.

Cava can have corks popping with Committed success

In the other Listed race on the card, the extended 5f Committed Stakes for three-year-olds (15:10), Cava looks to have terms very much in her favour and brings leading form claims into this sprint. Trained by Joseph O’Brien, this daughter of Acclamation is the least exposed in the 10-runner line-up.

The filly won on debut at Fairyhouse under Seamie Heffernan, who is back in the saddle here. Cava was then stepped up into Group 3 company at The Curragh when last in action for an incredibly hot juvenile contest. Although beaten a length into third by So Perfect, the form is very strong as the runner-up Skitter Scatter came out and notched a hat-trick.

Those successes include at Group 1 level in the Moyglare Stud where she beat the aforementioned Lady Kaya by a couple of lengths. Cava, meanwhile, jinked left and dislodged Donnacha O’Brien at the start and, without those pre-race antics, she may not have been headed in the final strides and dropped down two places.

Joint top on adjusted ratings

As those two runs have earned her a 100 rating and fillies get 5lb from the boys, she comes out joint top on adjusted figures. Joining Cava in that is the overexposed The Irish Rover and, compared to that rival, she’s open to any amount of further progress.

Further improvement looks assured and the drop back in trip should also suit judged on the way she just failed to last at The Curragh. The unexposed Cava is thus the next best bet of these Navan betting tips for April 28 and may be an Irish sprinter to follow this season.

Whirling Dervish has claims of place behind Capri in Vintage Crop

The feature race is the 1m 6f Group 3 Vintage Crop Stakes (16:15) and, although Capri is 6lb and upwards clear of the field on adjusted ratings, one worth chancing each-way could be Whirling Dervish. Trained by Jessica Harrington, this four-year-old Camelot gelding looks relatively unexposed over trip.

After coming a four-length third to Hazapour in a strong Galway maiden, Whirling Dervish won on his second start at Tipperary by six lengths. Although winless last season, that does not quite tell the full story. Whirling Dervish fly leapt the start in the Listed 1m 5f Yeats Stakes won by the re-opposing Southern France over 1m 5f.

Unexposed as a stayer

He was nearest at the finish, however, and only beaten 2 1/4 lengths in third. As the two meet on the same terms over a furlong further here, it’s far from certain Southern France will confirm the form. Whirling Dervish was then sent handicapping, but not knocked about when down the field in the Kingdom Gold Cup and Pentingo at Leopardstown.

After rounding the campaign off when a 6 1/2 lengths runner-up to Mustajeer over 1m 4f in a Listed affair at Naas, he made a winning reappearance at Gowran Park when up in trip. While Whirling Dervish only beat yet another whose re-opposes in Twilight Payment by a length and is 7lb worse off at the weights, he has far greater scope to progress.

It’s also worth pointing out former owners Godolphin have sold that six-year-old rival, who looks fully exposed. There could be more to come from Whirling Dervish in contrast and he completes these Navan betting tips for April 28 as an each-way punt.
