Hull City
Middlesbrough

With Middlesbrough so terribly close to reaching that much coveted top Championship spot and Middlesbrough barely hanging on above the relegation zone, it’s fair to say that these two teams – already in the early stages of the season – are in very different places. However, they both come into this match with the same desire to win and get to where their season needs to be. Hull City vs Middlesbrough Betting Tips: Form Guide

Hull City Fail To Impress This Season

It’s fair to say that Hull City have gotten off to a bad start. In all honesty though, they hardly set the world alight last time around either, so it’s not been entirely unexpected.

Their league kicked off in drab style with a 3-1 loss to Aston Villa and a 1-1 draw against Sheffield Wednesday. Things continued in that vein with a 1-0 loss to Blackburn. A 3-2 win against Rotherham finally moved the dial and got Hull City their first win, and at least showed the team are able to capitalise on chances. That didn’t last, however, as they then lost 2-0 and 2-1 to Stoke and Derby respectively. It could have been worse though – they lost a Carabao Cup match 4-0, again to Derby, mere days before.

They got some reprieve with a 2-0 win over luckless Ipswitch but this was hardly enough to change their fortunes, nor many Hull City vs Middlesbrough betting tips. That would be their last win thus far, as they come into this match off back-to-back losses, going 2-1 against Wigan and 3-0 against Reading. Hull City seem to be on the same path as last season – just doing enough to avoid relegation – and if they continue like this, even that isn’t a certainty.

Middlesbrough Show Serious Promise

Middlesbrough have looked impressive in what has been a productive season thus far, although one which has seemed a touch shakier as of late. They began with a 2-2 draw against Millwall, which saw them dramatically come back from their opponent’s two-goal lead. As impressive as this was, it was a mere warm-up, as they topped this off with no less than four league wins and six consecutive victories if you also include their Carabao Cup encounters.

Not only that, but those league games were all with a clean sheet. They beat Sheffield United 3-0, Birmingham 1-0, Bristol City 2-0 and West Brom 1-0, before finally hitting a brick wall in the form of the team currently occupying the top spot, Leeds United. The match was dull but did reinforce that Middlesbrough are a threat to the Championship title.

Sadly, this momentum was rudely interrupted by a surprise 1-0 win by Norwich, which saw their opponents take advantage of foolish mistakes and put some doubts in Middlesbrough’s long-term ability. However, we don’t think this will do much to remove them as favourites for many Hull City vs Middlesbrough match previews.

They got back into the swing of things with a 2-0 win over Bolton but momentum was halted again in a 0-0 draw against Swansea. Despite looking a little less certain as of late, there’s no doubt that they’ve had a better season so far than Hull and that’s fairly reflected in their positions.

Hull City vs Middlesbrough Preview: Recent Meetings

With a head-to-head history a little more balanced than you might expect based on many Hull City vs Middlesbrough betting tips for today, these encounters certainly do make for interesting reading. Their last two matches, however, ended exactly the same way – and is probably the way most people expect this to go – with Middlesbrough handing Hull decisive 3-1 losses.

Earlier that year though, Hull got their own back with a 4-2 Premier League encounter. Looking back even further, in 2016, Middlesbrough got the upper hand with back-to-back 1-0 victories, but once again Hull evened the score with a trilogy of wins in 2015/14 and 13. These went 3-0, 2-0 and 1-0.

Overall, we suppose we’d have to give Middlesbrough the slight advantage based on them having the more recent wins, but it remains a relatively close set of results.

Hull City vs Middlesbrough Prediction: Middlesbrough Predictably Win

Unfortunately for home side fans, there’s going to be few surprises in our Hull City vs Middlesbrough prediction as we think that the evidence really speaks for itself. The only method by which these teams are close in our comparisons is in their head-to-head contests, and even there Middlesbrough have the advantage. Hull’s victories are arguably less relevant considering the breakneck speed in which club football moves, and Middlesbrough have the two more recent wins, both by a fair margin.

In terms of recent performances – and even when you compare how they did last year – Middlesbrough are performing consistently better. The difference in league positions is no outcome of luck, and for the most part, the points have reflected the performances. We’ve certainly seen Middlesbrough struggle and make silly mistakes though, so this is by no means a surefire result. That being said though, we think a lot would have to go right for Hull to get the win here.

Therefore, our prediction has to be that Middlesbrough wins to continue their attempted climb to the very top of the Championship.
