Inter vs Barcelona - Free Betting Tips

Inter Milan
Barcelona

The Giuseppe Meazza Stadium hosts the standout battle in Group B, and the biggest match of this week’s Champions League slate, as Inter host Barcelona needing a win, realistically, to have any hope of topping the group. The visitors are favourites, and a win here will pretty much cement them as group winners, but Inter vs Barcelona betting tips may take a bit of a stress test given that Barca have been far from perfect so far this season.

An Argentinian attacker may well take centre stage tonight, but with Leo Messi an injury doubt, the chances are that it will be Inter’s poacher supreme, Mauro Icardi, who delivers this evening, and if you’re on him to score any time at 33/20 with 888sport you have a good shot at some return. While the hosts have Icardi, the visitors do have the better team, and we think the Inter vs Barcelona best odds of the evening may be on Barca winning after the half-time score is level. You can get 4/1 with Paddy Power, which is value in a game which is likely to be end-to-end. If you’re feeling a little more daring, then have a look at an Exact Score punt. It’s a push, but at odds of 22/1, backing the Catalans to win 3-2 might just be a very smart bet.

Inter vs Barcelona Betting Tips: Form Guide

Nerazzurri Recover From Slow Start

A chaotic start to their Serie A season saw Inter lose two of their first four, and picking up just four points from as many games, with Sassuolo winning on the opening weekend, and then Parma coming to Milan and springing a huge surprise. Domestically, though, Inter have been perfect since then, with a run of seven straight wins in Serie A lifting them to second place. During that run of fixtures, they’ve overcome some significant hurdles too. Chief among them was bringing an end to their recent awful record in the Derby della Madonnina, defeating Gennaro Gattuso’s Milan side 1-0 with an injury-time goal from – who else – Icardi.

While Juventus remain problematically out of reach, six points ahead, Inter have come through a few tests much more searching than the early-season games where they spilled points. A trip to Lazio could well have ended badly, but Icardi was again in form, snatching two goals as Inter pulled off a fantastic 2-0 away win over Simone Izaghi’s men. With the Argentinian kept out of the firing line for the visit of Genoa last weekend, the fine scoring form of Spaletti’s men wasn’t even slowed – two goals from the usually goal-shy midfielder Roberto Gagliardini helping his side to a 5-0 win.

In Europe, things have been simmering nicely. Their first game in the group saw Spurs take a second-half lead, but Icardi levelled matters on 85 minutes before an injury-time winner from Mirko Vecino, while PSV were seen off by the same scoreline. Inter again went behind, but Radja Nainggolan equalised before the inevitable goal from a striker whose name you can probably guess by now. However, Inter vs Barcelona match previews will point to the most recent outing, against tonight’s opponents, who inflicted Inter’s only defeat in the last ten games.

Barca Not Brilliant, But The Best In Spain

While Barcelona are, unsurprisingly, top of La Liga, they’ve pulled up very few trees to get there and had some very ordinary performances along the way. Their start in the Champions League may have been commanding – PSV leaving the Nou Camp with a 4-0 defeat for their troubles, and Spurs playing a supporting role in Leo Messi’s masterclass as Barca won 4-2 at Wembley – but the four domestic games wrapped around those encounters saw Ernesto Valverde’s men fail to pick up a single win. Draws at Valencia, and at home to Girona and Bilbao, were wrapped around a shocking 2-1 defeat at relegation candidates Leganes.

Fans at the Nou Camp are a little happier now, and not just because Real Madrid took just two months to tire of Julen Lopetegui’s efforts and send him packing after an abysmal start to the season. Barca have barged their way clear at the top of the table, opening up a three point lead over closest challengers Espanyol. That run has included a 5-1 slapping of Madrid, the final indignity for Lopetegui, but even in winning their last five games in all competitions the Blaugrana have shown some room for improvement. It took a late double salvo from Ousmane Dembele and Luis Suarez to turn a 2-1 deficit into a 3-2 win at Rayo Vallecano this past weekend.

What this means for Inter vs Barcelona betting tips for today remains to be seen. The defending Spanish champions have not been at their best this season, but they have found confidence in Europe, beating tonight’s opponents 2-0 in Catalonia a fortnight ago. If they’re saving their best performances for the Champions League, it might help them avoid the nightmare that saw them go out in last season’s quarter finals. A solid result tonight would help.

Inter vs Barcelona Preview: Recent Meetings

The sides’ last meeting, as we’ve seen, ended in victory for Barcelona. Inter marched into the Nou Camp level with their opponents on six points, but on the night the hosts’ win was relatively comfortable. Half an hour in, Rafinha fired home from a Luis Suarez assist, before a Rakitic pass seven minutes from time played in left-back Jordi Alba to complete the job.

Going back further, these sides last met in 2010, in the semi-finals of this competition. Pedro, now of Chelsea, opened the scoring for Barcelona in Milan, but Inter struck back three times. Diego Milito created openings for Wesley Schneider on the half-hour, and Maicon on 48 minutes, to make it 2-1. He then added the third himself to leave Barca with it all to do in the home leg a week later. As it turned out, the Spanish side would keep a clean sheet and get the win on their own turf, but with just one goal – an 84th-minute strike from Gerard Pique – it was not enough to secure them a place in the final.

Inter vs Barcelona Prediction: Narrow Away Win

This match is going to be one of the more contested not just of this tranche of fixtures, but the whole Champions League group stage. While it took Inter a bit of time this season to get all their parts moving in the same direction, they’ve been impressive in the last couple of months, winning nine in their last ten games overall. The problem is that tenth game: it came against Barcelona, and while Inter are the side with home advantage this week, it remains to be seen whether that will be enough. Barca are good enough to beat anyone, anywhere. There are very few sides in Europe you can say that about.

In the end, it’s that fact that guides our Inter vs Barcelona prediction. Whether or not Messi plays, the Spanish champions have a frightening attack, such that £100million youngster Ousmane Dembele may well start on the bench. Inter have a hugely impressive XI of their own, but if Valverde can suppress the supply to Icardi, Inter have limited other avenues. Inter, meanwhile, must know that even if they can stop Suarez, Barcelona can look elsewhere, and for that reason we think Barcelona will have enough to win the game. It will be close, but we’ll take them by a goal in what could be a high-scoring game.
