Juventus
Sassuolo

A surprise top two clash at the Allianz Stadium this weekend, as Juventus welcome a newly-prolific Sassuolo in the hope of continuing their entirely expected unbeaten start to the season. The visitors thrashed Genoa last time out, but that hasn’t persuaded the pundits to make their Juventus vs Sassuolo betting tips any less favourable for the hosts, for whom Cristiano Ronaldo will hope to score his first competitive goal. Juve can – and probably will – go five points clear with a win here.

Juventus are an unbackable 1/5 with the majority of bookmakers, so to spice the bet up a little it may be worth taking Genting’s 6/10 on a home win with more than 2.5 goals scored. That’s more than possible considering the attacking talent on show and Sassuolo’s new-found open style of play. Perhaps the Juventus vs Sassuolo best odds come if you back Juventus to win after being level at half time. They don’t seem to have hit top gear yet and may not roll over an energised visiting team, and Dafabet’s 16/5 on this outcome certainly looks like good value. Anyone in the market for more of a speculative shout might appreciate William Hill’s 9/1 odds on a 3-1 home win. With a certain Portuguese star impatient to break his duck, there’s a good chance that Juve will cut loose once they get ahead.

Juventus vs Sassuolo Betting Tips: Form Guide

Juve On Top, But Yet To Break Free

Three games into the season, it’s unsurprising to see Juventus with three wins on the board but, at least on their travels, they haven’t yet been as clinical as they were last season. The departure of Gonzalo Higuain, and the reshuffling to include their new galactico, has changed the way they play. This has had its benefits – they’ve scored two or more goals in each game – but with players unsure of their defensive duties, they have made heavy weather of visits to recently promoted Parma and somehow-not-relegated Chievo.

The season opened at Chievo, and when Sami Khedira opened the scoring after three minutes, the Scudetto trophy engraver may well have begun to practice his “J” technique as a reflex. However, the hosts fought their way back into the game, and two goals saw them ahead by 56 minutes. An own goal, followed by an extremely late Bernardeschi penalty (90+3), secured the three points for Juve. A week later, Lazio came to the Allianz, and left empty-handed as Miralem Pjanic and Mario Mandzukic scored thirty minutes into each half to secure a routine home win.

Last time out, it was another away trip – this time to Parma. Again, Juve took the lead early, with Mandzukic hitting the target on two minutes. Former Arsenal winger Gervinho snatched an equaliser for the hosts on 33, and it was thanks to a Matuidi finish early in the second half that the champions again picked up the win. As we’ll see in most Juventus vs Sassuolo match previews, that means three games and no goals for Ronaldo. Before you start to worry, that’s exactly the same as his start to last season -and that ended up working out fine for him with 44 total goals and another Champions League medal.

Sassuolo Scoring – And Conceding – A Lot More

Sassuolo’s brand in the 2017/18 season was about picking up points via narrow wins and a lot of draws, and most of their games were very low-scoring. As a team, they scored 29 Serie A goals across the campaign – the exact same number as Lazio’s Ciro Immobile. So when they put five past Genoa a fortnight ago, it came as a surprise to fans who saw them score fewer than that in most months last season (they managed five in December, and a heady seven in April, although that was a busy month where they played six games). They did concede three in the process, but a 5-3 win is something they would have dreamed of last season.

There was some smart transfer dealing over the summer that may have helped i Neroverdi to this new way of playing – the acquisition of attacker Kevin-Prince Boateng has made them a more complete side, and they owe their unbeaten record to his penalty in the ninth minute of time added on, securing a 2-2 draw in their last away game at Cagliari. It’s been a hectic beginning to the season then, given that they opened the season by beating Inter 1-0. The Milan side had been expected to offer the sternest resistance to Juve’s inevitable title procession this season, but a first-half Berardi penalty secured the points for Sassuolo.

While all of this scoring and winning has been an enjoyable change for Roberto de Zerbi’s men, this may be the point where it stops. It’s clear that Juventus vs Sassuolo betting tips for today will favour the home side, and with good reason. If Genoa can score three goals against you, then there is a good chance that Juve will be able to cut through at least a couple of times.

Juventus vs Sassuolo Preview: Recent Meetings

Sassuolo would request that you don’t remind them of their last visit to the Allianz Stadium, as this marked one of the rare occasions last season when they were involved in a high-scoring game. As you may have surmised, all of that scoring happened in their net, as Juventus emerged 7-0 winners. Alex Sandro opened the scoring on nine minutes, and then laid one on for Khedira. The German midfielder then scored another, from a Pjanic pass, before returning the favour for Pjanic to score the fourth seven minutes before half time. In the second half, Higuain helped himself to a hat-trick against a shell-shocked visiting defence.

That was the second hat-trick a Juventus player scored against Sassuolo last season. In the meeting at the MAPEI Stadium earlier in the season, Paulo Dybala was on target three times, as la Vecchia Signora won 3-1, with Matteo Politano (now on loan at Inter) scoring the only goal for the hosts.

Juventus vs Sassuolo Prediction: Convincing Home Win

It must be comforting to have played well within your capabilities for three games and still be on a perfect record, but Juventus will eventually need to cut loose and play to their best at some point. With a Champions League trip to Valencia to come in the week, now might be a decent time to start. With Ronaldo having chosen to sit out the recent international games for Portugal, a well-rested Ballon D’Or winner with an annoying goalless streak playing on his mind might not be what Sassuolo wanted to face this weekend, but it’s what they’ve got.

Everyone familiar with the visitors’ often dull approach to the game last season will be delighted to see that they’ve remembered football needs to involve goals, and there is every chance they’ll grab one here. However, we just don’t see them holding Juventus at bay for the duration of this game, and as such our Juventus vs Sassuolo prediction is for the home side to win this one with a bit to spare. Also, although it would be funny to see a certain ex-Real Madrid player going without a goal for a fourth consecutive game, we’d expect to see him get on the scoresheet here.
