Kilmarnock
Celtic

Kilmarnock welcome Celtic to Ayrshire this weekend for a game that they will fancy winning. The Celts were beaten in midweek for the first time in 2019, and Killie gaffer Steve Clarke has stated that he expects a reaction. Clarke’s men are now without a win in four games, so they will also be looking for a much-needed victory. It should be an entertaining Scottish Premiership game.

Kilmarnock vs Celtic Betting Tips: Form Guide

Killie Looking To Upset Celts

Kilmarnock manager Steve Clarke has urged his players to match the best in Scotland this weekend, and believes that Celtic still pose a massive challenge for his players, despite the Glasgow side’s defeat in the Europa League in midweek. Killie have drawn three and lost one of their last four games in all competitions, so Clarke will be keen for his team to return to winning ways at Rugby Park on Sunday afternoon.

The Ayrshire side will take some optimism from the last time that they played Celtic at Rugby Park, back in September. They beat the Hoops 2-1 that day, and fought back from a goal down in doing so. Defender Stuart Findlay scored the winning goal in injury time at the end of the game that day. He is rated as only 50/50 for the game against Celtic, though, after not responding as well as expected to treatment of his injury. Eamonn Brophy’s injury situation is more encouraging, though, and the striker could be in the matchday squad, after doing well in training this week.

Hoops Hoping To Put European Disappointment Behind Them

Celtic suffered their first defeat of the calendar year in midweek, when they lost their round of 32 Europa League tie first leg to Valencia at Celtic Park. Offering up a pretty lack-lustre performance, the Celts were well beaten 2-0 by the Spanish side, and optimism levels for the second leg must be low. How that will affect the Celts on the domestic front remains to be seen, but manager Brendan Rodgers may look to freshen up his line-up for the trip to Killie. He also told the media in the wake of the game that his team had made some “basic” errors. He will want to see those eliminated against a Kilmarnock side which is sure to be well motivated for a clash with an Old Firm side for the second successive week.

Last weekend, Celtic won 5-0 against St Johnstone in the fifth round of the Scottish Cup. They are yet to concede a goal in domestic competition in 2019, though they have played St Johnstone three times in the last three weeks. In their last league game, Celtic beat Hibernian 2-0 at Celtic Park.

Kilmarnock vs Celtic Preview: Recent Meetings

These two sides have played each other on two occasions in the 2018/19 season, with each winning one game. The first game between the teams was a league match at Rugby Park on September 23. Killie won the game 2-1, thanks to a late injury-time winner from Stuart Findlay. Earlier in the game, Leigh Griffiths had put Celtic into a 1-0 first-half lead, before Chris Burke equalised after the interval for Killie.

Celtic won the second encounter between the teams, a Scottish Premiership game at Parkhead on December 8, in emphatic style. The Hoops hammered the Ayrshiremen 5-1 that day, with Scotland winger James Forrest scoring twice. Odsonne Eduouard was also on the scoresheet for the Hoops that day, as were Mikael Lustig and Ryan Christie. Eamonn Brophy scored Killie’s only goal from the penalty spot in the game’s 52nd minute.

Kilmarnock vs Celtic Prediction: Low Scoring Draw

If you are looking for Kilmarnock vs Celtic betting tips for today, our prediction for this game is that it will end in a 1-1 draw. While Celtic have been in imperious domestic form during 2019, not conceding a single goal in domestic competition since the turn of the year, their midweek defeat to Valencia will have taken its toll on them physically and mentally, especially as they were beaten at Celtic Park, which is supposed to be a fortress for European games. We think that Killie will score early on, and may well fancy their chances of victory, before Celtic start playing well in the second half and level things up.
