Leeds United
Birmingham City

Championship draw specialists Birmingham travel to West Yorkshire to take on high-flying Leeds United at Elland Road on Saturday afternoon, hoping to finally win a league game in 2018/19. Whether they can beat Marcelo Bielsa’s early season pace-setters is a moot point, but Blues fans will surely travel in hope. For Leeds, this game is about building on this week’s 3-0 victory at home to Preston North End.

Leeds United vs Birmingham City Betting Tips: Form Guide

Leeds Back In Winning Form

Leeds United have made the early pace in the Championship, topping the table with 18 points from their eight league games so far this season. They have won five and drawn three of those games, meaning that they are yet to lose in the league this season. Significantly, they have scored 18 goals and conceded just five. That suggests they are strong in attack and defence, a testament to the quality that veteran coach Marcelo Bielsa has instilled in his squad. The veteran Argentine’s appointment as coach at Elland Road caused many people’s eyebrows to be raised, but he is showing that the Leeds job is exactly the kind of challenge that he relishes.

Earlier this week, Leeds ended a run of three games without a win in all competitions by thumping Preston North End 3-0 at Elland Road. Liam Cooper opened the scoring in the 37th minute, before Tyler Roberts bagged a brace in the game’s last quarter to seal the victory for the Whites.

In the three games before that victory, Leeds had been knocked out of the League Cup by Preston. They had then drawn 0-0 at home to Middlesbrough, and 1-1 away at Millwall.

Blues Draw Too Many Games

Garry Monk’s Birmingham City team are yet to win a game in the Championship this season. They now find themselves in 20th place in the table, with six points to show from their eight games so far in 2018/19. They have lost just twice, though. It is drawing games that is the Blues’ problem. They have drawn six league games so far, and one senses that the pressure will begin to build on Monk if he cannot find a way to get his team to take three points soon.

Since losing 1-0 at Bolton Wanderers on August 22, the Blues have drawn four league games. The first game of that run was away at Nottingham Forest, where they drew 2-2. City led twice in the game, thanks to goals from Lukas Jutkiewicz and Che Adams, but could not hang on for victory. That was followed up with a goalless draw at home to Queens Park Rangers. After that, the Blues faced a local derby against West Bromwich Albion at St Andrews. The game ended 1-1, with Jota putting the Blues into the lead. Again, they conceded an equaliser, though. In midweek, it was another 0-0, this time away at Sheffield United.

Leeds United vs Birmingham City Preview: Recent Meetings

These two sides met on two occasions in the Championship in 2017/18. Each side won one game. The first match was at Elland Road in September 2017. The home side won the game 2-0. The first Leeds goal was scored by Samuel Saiz in the 17th minute. United had to wait until injury time at the end of 90 minutes for their second goal, though. Northern Ireland international Stuart Dallas was the scorer.

In the second game, at St Andrews in December 2017, it was the Blues who came out on top. There was just a solitary goal in the game, coming courtesy of Jacques Maghoma. The goal, in the game’s 83rd minute was much needed for the Blues at the time. It secured their first victory in eight games, and came when they were sitting at the very bottom of the Championship table.

Leeds United vs Birmingham City Prediction: Comfortable Home Win

If you are looking for Leeds United vs Birmingham City betting tips for today, then our prediction is that the home side will win this game in pretty comfortable fashion. A scoreline of 2-0 in favour of United looks likely. Birmingham’ confidence is bound to have been affected by their continual conceding of equalisers, and they may well be relying on luck to get them through this game with their goal intact. Tyler Roberts bagged a brace against Preston earlier this week, and backing hm to score again is a good bet.
