Livingston vs Rangers Betting Tips: Form Guide

Livi On The Up

Gary Holt’s Livingston team might have been expected to be struggling by this stage of the Scottish Premiership campaign. Having got rid of Kenny Miller as manager after only a few weeks of the season, though, the West Lothian side has improved massively. They have now gone four games without defeat, and have won three and drawn one of those matches. Their last defeat came in the Scottish League Cup at home to Motherwell on September 18, when they were beaten 1-0 in the round of 16.

Livi followed that up with 2-0 win in Paisley against struggling St Mirren, and then produced something of a shock a week later, when they welcome Hibernian to the Tony Macaroni Stadium. They beat the Hibs 2-1, a result which must have given them tremendous confidence. They followed that win up with another victory a week later, winning 1-0 at home to Hamilton Academical. A week later, it was the turn of another Edinburgh side to visit West Lothian. High-flying Heart of Midlothian were held to a 0-0 draw, a result which showed Livi are no respecters of reputation.

Rangers Rolling On Nicely

Steven Gerrard’s Rangers team is a very different beast from the stuttering, stumbling version of the Light Blues that the Scottish Premiership witnessed last season. Since losing 1-0 to Celtic at the beginning of this month, the Gers have gone four games unbeaten, with three of those matches ending in victory for them. Immediately after the disappointing defeat to Celtic, Rangers won 4-0 at home to struggling Dundee. While they might have been expected to dispose of the Tayside team with relative ease, their next game was a much tougher proposition. The Gers travelled to Spain to take on Villarreal in the Europa League group stage. Rangers came away from Spain with a very creditable 2-2 draw.

Next up for Gerrard’s men was a home league game with St Johnstone. The Light Blues disposed of the Perth side in convincing style, winning 5-1. They then followed that thrashing up with another in midweek. The Gers claimed a place in the League Cup semi-final with a 4-0 hammering of Ayr United, the team who are currently top of the Scottish Championship.

The Gers are therefore in confident mood at the moment, and Livi will need to be at their best this weekend.

Livingston vs Rangers Preview: Recent Meetings

Livingston and Rangers last played each other in the 2015/16 season, when both teams were in the Scottish second tier. Out of those four Championship games, Rangers won two, Livi one, and there was one draw. The two games played at Ibrox ended in victory for the Gers. The first of those games was in September 2015, and was won 3-0 by Rangers. The second Ibrox encounter took place in January 2016, and saw the home side win by a three-goal margin again. This time the score was 4-1 in favour of the men from Govan.

Livingston did not lose either of their home games against Rangers that season. The first game at Almondvale was played in November 2015. It ended in a 1-1 draw. The fourth game between the sides in 2015/16 took place in April 2016. It ended in a victory for Livi, who triumphed 1-0.

Livingston vs Rangers Prediction: Narrow Away Win

If you’re looking for Livingston vs Rangers Betting Tips for today, our prediction for this game is that Rangers will win 2-1. While Livingston have been in good form recently, and have climbed the Premiership table with some good results, Steven Gerrard’s Gers are really starting to pick up the pace. The Light Blues have scored nine goals in their last two competitive matches, and look like being too strong for Livi. Having said that, the West Lothian team are no mugs, and will work hard to frustrate Rangers and stay in the game for as long as possible. Rangers will win, but they may have to leave it late to seal the win. Backing Kyle Lafferty to score the vital goal for the Teddy Bears is a good bet.
