Manchester United
Arsenal

Arsenal travel north to Old Trafford to face Manchester United on Wednesday evening, with the Gunners looking to extend their unbeaten Premier League run to 13 games. Things are a little less optimistic at United at the moment, but that seems to be the usual state of things during the reign as manager of Jose Mourinho. It should be a cracking game under the floodlights at the Theatre of Dreams.

Manchester United vs Arsenal Betting Tips: Form Guide

Red Devils’ Recent Mediocre Run Does Not Inspire

There seems to be a perpetual cloud of frustration and low level anger around Old Trafford almost permanently during the Mourinho era. Things never seem to be smooth at the club while the Portuguese is in charge. Some pundits suspect that Mourinho might suspect that this will be the last year of his deal at the club, as he rarely spends longer than three years in a job. At the moment, the team is misfiring, and recent results have been disappointing. In their last three league matches, United have lost 3-1 away at Manchester City, drawn 0-0 at home to Crystal Palace, and drawn 2-2 away at Southampton, whose manager Mark Hughes was sacked earlier this week. That run is not exactly inspiring, especially for a club of United’s stature.

Mourinho has injuries to deal with, too. Alexis Sanchez and Victor Lindelof both have thigh problems, while Chris Smalling (ankle), Eric Bailly (back), Antonio Valencia and Matteo Darmian (both knocks) are all doubtful. Luke Shaw is also being assessed after recently sustaining a knock. Ashley Young is suspended for the game.

Gunners Need To Find Old Trafford Form

Unai Emery’s team have gone 12 Premier League games without suffering defeat, and will want to extend that run at Old Trafford on Wednesday evening. The Gunners have managed to win just three times at the ‘Theatre of Dreams’ in the Premier League era, though, and one senses that the coaching staff at the club might well be very happy if the north Londoners come away from Manchester with a precious away point. Arsenal have not won a Premier League match at Old Trafford for a somewhat surprising 12 years. The last time the teams met in midweek in the Premier League was back in 2002, when the Gunners won 1-0 to seal the league title. Gunners fans may well take some inspiration from that piece of history.

Emery has to deal with a number of absences too. Midfielder Granit Xhaka is suspended, while Mesut Ozil (back), Nacho Monreal (hamstring) and Laurent Koscielny (Achilles) all have injuries that need to be assessed before their availability can be confirmed. Danny Welbeck’s ankle problem prevents him facing his old club, and Dinos Mavropanos has a groin injury which keeps him out the squad.

Manchester United vs Arsenal Preview: Recent Meetings

These two sides have played each other on 52 previous occasions in the Premier League era. United have managed to win 24 of those clashes, with the Gunners taking the spoils in 13 of them. The Gunners have won just three times at Old Trafford in the Premier League era, which could be significant, if you are looking for Manchester United vs Arsenal Betting Tips for today.

Last season, the teams met twice in the league, with United winning both games. In December 2017, United won 3-1 at the Emirates Stadium. Jesse Lingard bagged a brace of goals for the Red Devils, with Antonio Valencia the other United goalscorer. The Gunners’ goal was scored by Alexandre Lacazette. Last season’s league game at Old Trafford took place in April, 2018, and was won 2-1 by the home side. Paul Pogba scored United’s first, before Henrikh Mkhitaryan equalised for Arsenal. A late Marouanne Fellaini goal won it for United.

Manchester United vs Arsenal Prediction: Low Scoring Draw

This is a tough game to call. Although Arsenal have proved hard to beat in 2018/19, and are on a good run, they do not have a great history at Old Trafford in the Premier League era. United are always strong at home, too. The Red Devils have been drawing too many games this season, and have not won in three Premier League outings, so confidence is unlikely to be high in the ranks of Mourinho’s team. Our prediction for this game is that it will end all-square, a result that will please Unai Emery much more than it will Mourinho. For us, this game looks set to be a low scoring draw, so backing 1-1 as the final scoreline would look to be a good bet.
