Manchester United
Burnley

It’s an old fashioned Lancashire derby at Old Trafford on Tuesday evening, with Manchester United welcoming Burnley to the Theatre of Dreams. Both teams have been in good form in recent weeks, and both will be pushing for three Premier League points, albeit for different reasons. United will want to put pressure on the top four, while Burnley will want points to help them steer away from the relegation zone.

Manchester United vs Burnley Betting Tips: Form Guide

Red Devils Revived By Solksjaer

Manchester United are targeting a seventh win in seven Premier League games in this clash with Burnley on Tuesday evening. Since Old Gunnar Solksjaer took over as manager at Old Trafford, he has won every game in all competitions. He could become the first ever manager of any club to win his first seven Premier League matches, if his team beat Burnley.

One player who has thrived since Solksjaer took over from Jose Mourinho at United is England striker Marcus Rashford. The 21-year-old has been deployed as the team’s main striker in a 4-2-3-1 formation, with Paul Pogba playing in just behind. Rashford has shown that he can link play very well in a role as a traditional number nine, and he has also weighed in with goals. If he scores on Tuesday evening he will have netted in five consecutive Premier League games, and become the third-youngest player to do so.

United have a total of 44 Premier League points, and currently sit in sixth place in the table. A sign of just how much impact Solksjaer’s appointment is the fact that United have won 41% of their 44 points under his management.

Burnley Improving Rapidly

The Clarets have been engaged in a rearguard action against relegation in recent weeks, that has seen them put some much-needed breathing space between them and the relegation places in the Premier League. Sean Dyche’s team have won 45% of their 22 Premier League points in their last four matches. After losing 5-1 at Everton on Boxing Day, Burnley have won three and drawn one of their four Premier League matches. They have beaten West Ham United, Huddersfield Town and Fulham, and drew 0-0 away at Watford in their last outing in the Premier League. They have also knocked Barnsley out of the FA Cup third round during their recent winning run.

That good run came to an end at the weekend, though, with the Clarets being knocked out of the FA Cup fourth round by Manchester City, who beat them 5-0 at the Etihad Stadium at the weekend. While Dyche is sure to have been disappointed by the emphatic manner of that defeat, he may well also allow himself a small sense of relief that his team is now free to concentrate on securing its Premier League future.

Manchester United vs Burnley Preview: Recent Meetings

These two sides have met on just nine occasions in the Premier League, though their shared history goes back much further than that. Out of those nine Premier League meetings, Burnley have won one, United five, and there have been three drawn games. Burnley’s solitary victory came at Turf Moor in August 2009, when they won 1-0. The Clarets have never won at Old Trafford in the Premier League. Their last victory at the Theatre of Dreams came in September 1962, in the old First Division, when they won 5-2.

The most recent clash between the teams came earlier this season, when they met at Turf Moor in the Premier League in September. United won the game 2-0, with two first half goals from Romelu Lukaku. United striker Marcus Rashford was sent off in the second half of the game.

Manchester United vs Burnley Prediction: Comfortable Home Win

If you’re looking for Manchester United vs Burnley betting tips for today, our prediction for this game is that the home side will win 3-1. United are in a golden vein of form right now, and the Clarets do not look to have the firepower to be able to trouble them much. United do have a tendency under Solksjaer, though, to concede goals even when they win games. For that reason, we suspect that Burnley will score at least once, though it might well just be a consolation at the end of the game.
