Millwall
Sheffield United

Millwall welcome Sheffield United to The Den on Saturday afternoon, for what should be an interesting EFL Championship clash. The London side is desperately in need of a win, having taken just six league points so far this season. They have not won for five games. The Blades are up at the right end of the table, and will be wanting to build on last week’s win over Preston.

Millwall vs Sheffield United Betting Tips: Form Guide

Millwall Looking Desperate For Points

Millwall have not been having a great time on the pitch in recent weeks, with no wins in five games in all competitions. Last weekend, the Lions lost 2-0 away at West Bromwich Albion, a defeat which followed on from losing 2-0 away at Queens Park Ramgers the week before. The team’s last victory in any competition was in the League Cup, when they beat Plymouth Argyle 3-2 at The Den in the second round. The reward for that victory was a third round tie at home to Fulham. That game was played on Tuesday night, and ended in another defeat for the Lions, who lost 3-1.

In the game against Fulham, Millwall manager Neil Harris used a 3-5-2 formation. He was encouraged by the way his team adapted to it, and it might be used again this weekend in the league. Harris also used the game to take a look at fringe players in his squad, making eight changes from the weekend’s Championship defeat at West Brom.

Something certainly needs to change at The Den, otherwise Millwall could soon find themselves locked in another relegation battle. Sheffield United are not easy opposition to be facing, either.

Blades Back In Winning Form

Chris Wilder’s Sheffield United team returned to winning ways last weekend after a two-game blip, when they beat Preston North End 3-2 at Bramall Lane. The goals came from Billy Sharp, Chris Basham and David McGoldrick, who struck the winner in the 87th minute after Preston had equalised twice. The manner of that victory will have pleased Wilder in some respects, as it showed that his team have the mental resolve to deal with conceding two equalisers, and still win the game.

The week before, the Blades had drawn 0-0 at home to Birmingham City, a result which many associated with the club found disappointing, especially as it came on the back of a 1-0 defeat away at Bristol City. Prior to that defeat in the West Country, the Blades had been going really well. They had won four league games on the bounce, against QPR, Norwich City, Bolton Wanderers and Aston Villa. The Villa win was particularly impressive, with the Midlands side being dispatched 4-1 at Bramall Lane.

The Blades will see Millwall as vulnerable, given their recent form, but Wilder will not want any complacency to creep into his team’s mentality.

Millwall vs Sheffield United Preview: Recent Meetings

These two sides have met 54 times in all competitions in their history, with the Blades winning 22, Millwall 23, and there having been nine draws. The clubs’ most recent meetings came last season, when both sides were in the Championship. The first league meeting of last season was at The Den in December 2017. Millwall won 3-1. Lee Gregory opened the scoring for the home side in the 14th minute. David Brooks equalised for the Blades after 41 minutes. Mahlon Romeo and Jake Cooper scored in the second half to seal the win for Millwall.

The second encounter was at Bramall Lane in April earlier this year. This time the game ended all square, at 1-1. Both goals were scored in the second half. Leon Clarke opened the scoring for the Blades after 74 minutes. The lead did not last long, though, with Steve Morison equalising just two minutes later.

Millwall vs Sheffield United Prediction: Narrow Away Win

If you are looking for Millwall vs Sheffield United betting tips for today, our prediction is that the Blades will win this game 2-1. Millwall have been in awful form recently, with no victories in five games. Although the Blades have had a bit of a dip in recent times, they bounced back to beat Preston in convincing style last time out, and they will be looking to build on that, and put more pressure on fierce rivals Leeds United at the top of the table. It will be a hard-fought encounter, but the Yorkshire side will come out on top, with a possibility that the decisive goal will come late in the game.
