Ospreys to win is priced at an unprecedented 18/1 with 138.com, which is hugely rare for rugby union matches between two top sides. The Ospreys are slightly depleted and are up against it, but with those odds and Munster’s poor previous performance, it is certainly worth a shot! Our medium-risk bet is for Munster to win by 1-12, priced at a decent 16/5 with Betfair. We feel that Munster may struggle to get going due to the pressure to perform after a poor performance last time out, and the Ospreys veteran (James Hook and the like) will step up to the mark. Our low-risk betting tip backs Munster’s serial try-scorer Darren Sweetnam to score anytime at 4/6 Betway, as he has done so often at home for Munster.

Munster vs Ospreys Betting Tips: Form Guide

Munster Endure A Stuttering Start

Munster have lost one and won one this season so far, giving them a 50/50 ratio to work off. In their opening match, they defeated the South African Cheetahs by a hefty 38-0 at home as expected, as the Southern hemisphere sides are known for struggling on the road. Scannell, Kilcoyne and Sweetnam were amongst the try scorers as usual. Following that impressive victory, they travelled to Scotstoun to face the Glasgow Warriors in front of a passionate crowd. This resulted in a huge dip in performance for the Irish side, as they ended the match 25-10 losers. Munster fans will be demanding an improved performance this weekend as they come up against a depleted Ospreys side. Munster’s fan-favourite and captain Peter O’Mahony returns to lead his side, which includes talents such as Andrew Conway, Darren Sweetnam, and former Scarlets man Tadgh Beirne. Although these players are stand-outs, Munster do seem a side lacking in the world-class quality that they possessed for so many decades previously, so it will be interesting to see how they perform this weekend.

Ospreys Have An Encouraging Start

The Ospreys began their Pro14 campaign well a few weeks back, following a dreadful start to their last season. The South Wales side beat both Edinburgh (17-13) and the Cheetahs (46-14) at home in the Liberty Stadium, in front of a rather empty stadium, perhaps due to the lack of terrestrial television coverage. New signing George North crossed twice against Edinburgh, suggesting that he may have found his form of a few years back with the hunger he possessed. The Cheetahs game was perhaps the most memorable, where they (expectedly) defeated the South African side by 46 points to 14. Alun Wyn Jones and Justin Tipuric of all people both scored two tries each, whereas Otten, North and Jeffries also crossed the whitewash. With youngsters like Owen Watkin and Aled Davies mixing with the old-heads of Alun Wyn Jones, James Hook and Scott Williams, the Ospreys seem to have a good recipe for success this season. Despite this, they may struggle this weekend, as the side is depleted with the likes of AW Jones, Watkin, A Davies and Justin Tipuric all sitting out of this one.

Munster vs Ospreys Preview: Recent Meetings

These two sides met twice last season, where the Irish province seemed to have the Ospreys’ number, beating them twice. Munster won 16-21 in September 2017, and then once again by a more convincing 36-10 in the harsh December weather. Munster scored five tries to Ospreys’ two unconverted crossovers, thrilling their home crowd and demonstrating their dominance over the Welsh region. The Ospreys will hope for a change of fortune here, but are up against it with a few key players out.

Munster vs Ospreys Prediction: Munster Edge Victory

Although we feel that the depleted Ospreys side will not roll over for Munster, we must be factual about the matter. Munster, at home, with a below-full-strength side… the Ospreys are up against it and the home side really should run away with this late on. Munster should grind down this Ospreys side with relative ease, as long as they remain patient and composed in front of their demanding crowd with huge expectations following that poor loss against Glasgow. Without their leaders in AW Jones and Justin Tipuric, the Ospreys will do well to stay in the game for as long as possible, but the boot of Sam Davies should keep them in the game for a large portion of it at lease. Ultimately, we feel that Munster will simply have too much experienced fire-power up front, and will pull away from the Ospreys late on.
