Paris St Germain vs Reims - Free Betting Tips

Paris St. Germain
Stade Reims

Paris aim for a seventh straight win at the start of this Ligue 1 season as they prepare for this visit from Reims. The top-flight new boys sit in mid-table on eight points, but six of those were gained in their first two games and they’ve not been so hot since. Paris St Germain vs Reims betting tips will be fairly straightforward – the hosts, surely, will win this match and it’s not likely to be close. That said, Reims have beaten Nice and Lyon so far this season. Could they spring another surprise here?

As you might expect, there is little to no value in the 1X2 market here with PSG being such huge favourites. It is worth backing them at 8/13 to score over 2.5 goals, as they have yet to fall below three in any Ligue 1 game, so check out Unibet for those odds. Perhaps the Paris St Germain vs Reims best odds, however, are on Neymar to score a penalty. You’ll get 3/1 on that with 888sport, and with the hosts likely to dominate there should be a solid likelihood of a spot kick being awarded. Finally, looking at a correct score bet, there’s no reason to expect the goals will stop flowing. Reims have a habit of scoring consolation goals against PSG, so back a 4-1 result at 11/1 with BetBright.

Paris St Germain vs Reims Betting Tips: Form Guide

PSG: Tuchel Brings More Of The Same – So Far

Just seven competitive games into his stint as Paris manager, it would be far too early to deliver any kind of verdict on Thomas Tuchel’s stewardship of a job that has become one of the most divisive in Europe. You can pretty much guarantee that les rouge-et-bleu will win the league title even at this stage of the season, and with their attacking riches, it’s not hard to see how they have hit the 20-goal mark just six games into the Ligue 1 season. However, the past week has demonstrated the still-yawning gulf between their league dominance and performance in Europe.

At the weekend, PSG travelled to Rennes and the hosts surprised everyone by taking an early lead through Adrien Rabiot’s 11th-minute own goal. However, there was a sense of inevitability that the lead wouldn’t hold until the end, and as the first half drew to a close, Angel di Maria’s equaliser justified that sense. Goals from Thomas Meunier and Eric Choupo-Moting saw PSG to a 3-1 win, but the more telling result of the week came on last Wednesday’s Champions League visit to Liverpool. After going 2-0 behind with little protest, the Parisiens exploited slack Liverpool defending to draw level on 83 minutes. They could not hold on for a point even then, though, as Liverpool grabbed a late winner. Simply, the limitations of their defence and their lack of tactical nous once again failed them against the big boys.

Tuchel will have time to turn things around, assuming he wins Ligue 1 this season, which he will. However, four-goal hauls against sides such as Saint-Etienne and Nimes are old news. While Paris St Germain vs Reims betting tips for today expect more of the same, these are exactly the same achievements previous managers were delivering. The new manager will, at some stage, need to address the clear imbalance between superstar strikers and mediocre defence.

Reims’ Fine Start Tapers Off

As a starting point on their return to Ligue 1, 1-0 wins in the first two games showed that Reims weren’t back in the top flight simply looking to battle for their place at the table. The opening-day win away at Nice spoiled Patrick Vieira’s return to France and showed that the visitors can defend fiercely, holding out for 88 minutes after taking an early lead. They then repeated the trick in their first home game by seeing off second-place favourites Lyon, Pablo Chavarria scoring the game’s only goal on 32 minutes.

Since then, it hasn’t been smooth sailing for the newbies. The first game you’d have backed them to have a chance of winning, at Amiens, went badly wrong with the hosts going 1-0 up on 22 minutes, and Reims then losing defender Romain Metanire to a first-half red card. Amiens took no pity, and ran out 4-1 winners. The losing run continued with a home fixture against Montpellier, for whom one 77th-minute goal was enough to deliver all three points. Still, two wins and two losses from the first four games is not a bad start.

Most recently, that solid Reims defence has been in evidence again, although the ability to keep clean sheets has now extended to their attack. A 0-0 draw at Nantes was a decent result in a game they were expected to lose. The same dose against Dijon, who they might have hoped to beat, was less of a thrill. Now, with Paris St Germain vs Reims match previews being prepared, 0-0 would be a stunning achievement, but you would have to say it seems unlikely.

Paris St Germain vs Reims Preview: Recent Meetings

With Reims having spent the past two seasons in Ligue 2, this is their first chance to renew acquaintances with the hegemonic power of French football since February of 2016, back when Laurent Blanc was in the Parc des Princes hot seat. The game ended 4-1 to the hosts, for whom Zlatan Ibrahimovic grabbed two goals, with Gregory van der Wiel and Edinson Cavani notching one each. Prince Oniangue, now at Caen, scored the visitors’ goal, briefly bringing them back on level terms after van der Wiel’s opener.

The other game that season went better for Reims, who may well have thought they’d snatched all three points when substitute Theoson Siebatcheu scored in the 23rd minute. Cavani cut the party short by equalising less than a minute later, but taking a point from a game with PSG was no small achievement in a season where les rouge-et-blanc finished third from bottom and were relegated.

Paris St Germain vs Reims Prediction: Convincing Home Win

It’s easy to poke fun at Paris St Germain, with them being too good for French opposition but always failing when it matters in Europe. It’s also amusing, so you should definitely do it. Nonetheless, the fact remains that they are too good for even the best of the rest. Reims are not the best of the rest. They’ll settle, this season, for being the fourth-worst of the rest and staying in Ligue 1, and if they have any sense at all, they’ll have budgeted in their planning for this game delivering them no points. As we’ve seen, they’ve kept clean sheets in four of their six games so far. That’s no small achievement, but their defence is about to face its ultimate test.

We would expect that PSG will, once again, win. We’d also predict that they will, yet again, score quite a few goals. Reims should view this match as a “free hit” – go out and do what they usually do, hope it comes off and expect that it won’t. If things go well, they’ll potentially pull off a shock here. Even if they don’t, and our Paris St Germain vs Reims prediction of a 4-1 win for the hosts comes true, it’s no worse than anyone will have expected. If tonight’s visitors are to stay in Ligue 1 after the season ends, it will be with points won elsewhere.
