It’s second place against second from bottom in League One this weekend, with high-flying Portsmouth welcoming lowly Shrewsbury Town to Fratton Park on Saturday afternoon. The Shrews are yet to win a League One match so far in 2018/19, so Pompey will feel confident that they can add another three points to their tally, especially in front of their famously passionate and noisy home crowd.

Portsmouth vs Shrewsbury Town Betting Tips: Form Guide
Pompey Sailing In Right Direction
Portsmouth manager Kenny Jackett will have been very pleased with his team’s performance over the last month or so, with Pompey having now not lost in five games in all competitions. That run started with a 4-1 home win over Oxford United on August 18. Gareth Evans and Jamal Lowe, with two, scored the Pompey goals, with one also being an own goal. In their next game, Jackett’s team won 2-1 away at Bristol Rovers in the league, with the goals coming from Gareth Evans in the first half, and Ronan Curtis, who scored with just three minutes of normal time remaining.
In their next League One outing, away at Doncaster Rovers, Portsmouth returned to the south coast with a valuable away point, having drawn 0-0. Pompey’s next game was at home to Plymouth Argyle, and they won 3-0, thanks to two goals from Curtis, and one from Lowe.
Earlier this week, Pompey cemented their place at the top of Checkatrade Trophy Group I, with another emphatic victory. Jackett’s team won 4-0, with goals coming from Matthew Clarke, Ben Close, Brett Pitman and David Wheeler.
Shrews Sinking Fast
Shrewsbury manager John Askey must be feeling a certain amount of anxiety about his job already this season. Town have not yet won a game in normal time all season. Their only victory has been a penalty shoot-out ‘win’ in the Checkatrade Trophy over Manchester City Under-21s last month. Of course, a ‘win’ on penalties in that competition awards the victors two points rather than three. The Shrews are therefore yet to experience the sweet feeling of taking three points from a fixture in 2018/19, and fans are surely strapping themselves in for a tough campaign. It looks likely that the Shrews will be battling against relegation this season.
So they desperately need a win to turn things round and inject some much-needed momentum intot their campaign. Last time out, the Shrews drew 1-1 at home with Bristol Rovers. Town went down 1-0 in the 53rd minute to a penalty in that game. They received a boost just before the hour mark, though, when Rovers man Joe Martin was sent off. A Daniel Leadbitter own goal levelled the game in the 73rd minute, allowing the Shrews to at least collect a much needed league point.

The game’s single goal was scored early on, with James Bolton netting for the Shrews after just 21 minutes. This was a game with six yellow cards, three for each team, and one red. Portsmouth vs Shrewsbury Town Prediction: [Three Word Prediction; i.e. “Narrow Home Win”]
If you are looking for Portsmouth vs Shrewsbury Town betting tips for today, then it is probably wise to back Portsmouth to win this game. The Shrews are enduring a miserable season so far, and they will also be away from home for this game. Fratton Park used to be one of the most intimidating grounds in the country, and it can still generate a pretty hostile atmosphere when needed, which will not help Town’s confidence. The prediction is that Pompey will win this game pretty comfortably. We believe that backing Portsmouth to win 2-0 would be a pretty good bet for this game.
