Rangers
Kilmarnock

Rangers, who are currently something of a laughing stock in Scottish football following another hammering at the hands of Celtic, welcome Kilmarnock to Ibrox on Saturday, looking for a vital three points. There is a real chance that the Gers could finish fourth this season, and Steve Clarke’s Killie will be keen to add yet more gloss to their good season with a win in Govan.

If you have been studying the Rangers vs Kilmarnock match previews in the media this week, and fancy a low risk betting option, then William Hill have a good bet for you. They have Rangers to win and both teams to score at 2/1. If you want something a little riskier, then backing Kilamarnock on the 1X2 market at Coral looks excellent value. They have the away team priced at 13/2, which looks a little long, given Killie’s record against Rangers this season. If you think our prediction of 1-0 to Killie looks about right, then Betway have it priced at a tempting 16/1.

Rangers vs Kilmarnock Betting Tips: Form Guide

Too Many Caretakers At Ibrox This Season

Jimmy Nicholl is now in interim charge of Rangers, making him the second caretaker boss the club has appointed this season. The unfortunate Graeme Murty departed from Ibrox earlier this week. The former Scotland international had been plucked from coaching in the Ibrox youth system to take over when the ill-starred Pedro Caixinha left the club in October. Two caretaker bosses in a season is not an ideal situation for any club, and highlights the chaotic nature of affairs at the Govan club currently.

Murty departed the club after a second hammering by Celtic in just a couple of weeks. The Light Blues were humiliated 5-0 at Parkhead at the weekend, with the Hoops sealing the Premiership title too. That defeat followed hard on the heels of the 4-0 drubbing at Hampden in the Scottish Cup semi-final a couple of weeks ago. Nicholl has a hard job on his hands for the last couple of games of the season, with dressing room unrest having seen two senior players suspended in recent weeks too.

Now England and Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard is being strongly linked with the manager’s role at Ibrox. For once, the phrase ‘soap opera’ seems sadly apt when applied to Rangers at the moment.

Clarke’s Killie Continue To Delight Neutrals

Kilmarnock have lost their last two league games, the 5-3 thriller against Hibernian at Easter Road last weekend, and 2-0 at home to Aberdeen, but they have had a fine season. Manager Steve Clarke has taken the team to fifth place in the Premiership table, with the Ayrshire side nine points clear of Heart of Midlothian in sixth. That is a real improvement on last season’s eighth place, and there is a much more optimistic vibe around Rugby Park these days.

Clarke and his team will now be aiming to end the season as strongly as possible, and another victory over Rangers would add yet more sheen to a strong campaign. Killie have beaten both Rangers and Celtic at home this season, so a victory in Glasgow would certainly add some more sweetness to that impressive record.

But the Ayrshire outfit will need to sharpen up a bit on Saturday, especially after the excitement at Easter Road last week. Defending was not great in that clash against Hibs, from either side, and Clarke will have been disappointed that his team managed to score three goals away from home and yet still end up on the losing side.

Rangers vs Kilmarnock Preview: Recent Meetings

The first clash between the teams took place on October 25 at Ibrox, and ended in a 1-1 draw. Jason Holt put the Light Blues into the lead late in the first half. That strike was cancelled out in the fifth minute of injury time at the end of the game by a goal from former Rangers winger Chris Burke, though.

The second game was at Rugby Park on December 23, and was won 2-1 by Killie. Declan John had put Rangers into the lead in the first half, before another former Light Blue, Kris Boyd, bagged a second-half brace to win the game for Killie.

On March 17, the teams met for the third time, again at Ibrox, with Kilmarnock winning 1-0. Again, it was Kris Boyd who scored, sealing victory with the game’s only goal in the 54th minute. Rangers are therefore yet to beat Kilmarnock this season.

Rangers vs Kilmarnock Prediction: Narrow Away Win

If you are looking for Rangers vs Kilmarnock betting tips for today, then it is probably a good idea to back the Ayrshire side. The Gers are currently in turmoil, and it is impossible to say how the situation surrounding the manager’s job at the club will affect the players. There is also the Ibrox crowd to consider. Although well known for their loyalty, even the staunchest Rangers fans are finding their devotion to the club being tested at this time. There are likely to be more fan protests of some sort, and if Killie score early, the chances are that the home fans will turn on their team.

For those reasons, we’re going for a 1-0 win to Killie as the prediction for this game. Clarke’s team are certainly capable of winning at Ibrox, and beating Rangers again.
