Rangers
Kilmarnock

Rangers welcome Kilmarnock to Ibrox on Saturday afternoon for what should be a tasty Scottish Premiership encounter. There has been plenty of spice surrounding fixtures between these two clubs in recent months, and spectators can expect an intense atmosphere in Govan. Rangers have all but given up on catching Celtic to win the title now, but Killie still have a chance of overhauling Aberdeen and Rangers and finishing second.

Rangers vs Kilmarnock Betting Tips: Form Guide

Rangers Need A Lift

Steven Gerrard’s Rangers team head into this game on the back of a disappointing home defeat to Aberdeen in the Scottish Cup quarter-final replay. The Dons won 2-0 in Govan, ending the Gers’ hopes of some silverware this season. Gerrard has already conceded the title to Celtic this season, and had stated that his aim was to win the Scottish Cup in 2019. Apparently, the former England international was too angry to even speak to his players in the dressing room after the game, and it is easy to understand why.

Ironically enough, it was Kilmarnock who Rangers beat in the previous round of the Cup to set up their meeting with Aberdeen. The Gers beat Killie 5-0 in a fifth round replay at Ibrox on February 20, with the post-match reaction dominated by Kilmarnock gaffer Steve Clarke’s outburst about sectarian abuse.

Rangers have now not won in three games in all competitions. Their last league game was at Easter Road last week, where they drew 1-1 with Hibernian, in a game where skipper James Tavernier was attacked by a Hibs fan. A win, and a little less controversy, would surely be appreciated by Steven Gerrard this weekend.

Killie Looking To Build On Buddies Victory

Much of the focus for Kilmarnock will be on manager Steve Clarke, whose recent comments about sectarianism dominated the coverage of his team’s last trip to Ibrox. A cynic might suggest that his comments about the sectarian abuse he suffered served as a useful smokescreen when it came to Clarke being asked the 5-0 hammering his team took at the hands of the Gers. There does remain an issue with sectarian behaviour in Scottish football, though, and Clarke was right to highlight the issue. He is sure to receive a pretty intense ‘welcome’ from the home support at Ibrox on Saturday.

In their last game, Killie returned to winning ways with a 1-0 win at struggling St Mirren. It might have been a narrow win over the Paisley Buddies, but it will have come as a relief to Clarke, whose side had not scored in their five previous matches in all competitions. They drew two and lose three of those five games too, so the win came at a vital time. A trip to Ibrox looks like being a tough test for this Killie team.

Rangers vs Kilmarnock Preview: Recent Meetings

This will be the sixth time that these two sides have met in 2018/19. They have played each other once in the League Cup, twice in the Scottish Premiership, and twice in the Scottish Cup so far this season.

The first clash of the season came on August 19 at Rugby Park in the League Cup round of 16. Rangers won the game 3-1, with Alfredo Morelos scoring a hat-trick. The first league game was on October 31 at Ibrox, and ended 1-1. The next league encounter was at Rugby Park at January 23, and ended in a 2-1 win for Kilmarnock.

The two Cup games have been in the fifth round of the competition. The first game, at Rugby Park on February 9, ended in a goalless draw. This meant the teams faced a replay, which took place at Ibrox on February 20, and ended in a 5-0 win for Rangers.

Rangers vs Kilmarnock Prediction: Comfortable Home Win

If you are looking for Rangers vs Kilmarnock betting tips for today, our prediction for this game is that the home side will enjoy a relatively comfortable 2-0 win. Killie may have won last weekend, ending a run of five matches in all competitions without a victory, but a 1-0 away win over St Mirren is not much to celebrate this season, given how the Paisley side have struggled. Rangers have not won in three games, but they should still have more than enough quality to overcome a Killie side who have really struggled to score goals, let alone win games in recent weeks. Killie manager Steve Clarke’s recent criticism of the sectarianism of the Rangers support will also have ensured that there will be a passionate atmosphere amongst the home fans at Ibrox on Saturday.
