Hull Kingston Rovers
Halifax

Hull Kingston Rovers welcome Halifax to KCOM Craven Park this weekend, for a Qualifiers fixture. Rovers played their part in an amazing game of rugby league last weekend, when they beat Leeds Rhinos in a game in which it looked at times like tackling had been banned. Fax, meanwhile, have found the Qualifiers a tough test, with the West Yorkshire side yet to win a game post-split.

Hull KR vs Halifax Betting Tips: Form Guide

Robins Must Not Be Complacent

Tim Sheens will have been really pleased with his team collecting two vital competition points from Headingley last weekend, even if the defence on show from his team looked pretty fragile at times. Rovers have played their tough games early in the Qualifiers, and have done reasonably well. After the disappointment of their opening game defeat at home to Salford Red Devils aside, Sheens will have been delighted with his team having won two very tough away games. They beat Toronto Wolfpack in Canada 28-22. The Robins then followed that up with the 38-36 victory over Leeds, a result which really set down a marker.

The Qualifiers fixtures for Rovers now get somewhat simpler, at least on paper, with Championship side Halifax coming to Craven Park. Sheens will want to make sure that no complacency creeps into his side, as it did against Salford in the first match of the Qualifiers. Rovers must make sure they treat Fax with the same respect as they would a Super League team. If they do that, then they really should have too much quality for Richard Marshall’s team to deal with.

Halifax Finding It Hard

Halifax have found the Qualifiers a real test so far, losing all three of their post-split games. Halifax finished fourth in the Championship, collecting 33 points, the same tally as Toulouse Olympique and London Broncos. Coach Richard Marshall would probably acknowledge that reaching the Super Eights is enough of an achievement for a part-time club like this, and that they never harboured serious hopes of actually reaching Super League. Nevertheless, he would surely like to show the rest of the competition that his team are good enough to win at least one game in the Qualifiers.

Fax opened their Qualifiers campaign with a 14-0 defeat at home to Toronto Wolfpack. They forced the wealthy Canadian club to dig deep, though, with the Wolfpack producing an uncharacteristically attritional display in order to grind out the win. Marshall’s team followed that up with 28-6 defeat in France to Toulouse, which is never an easy place to travel to. Last time out, they were thrashed 62-4 at home by Salford, a side who have been significantly boosted by new signings which were made ahead of the split. This will be a tough game for Fax in east Hull on Saturday.

Hull KR vs Halifax Preview: Recent Meetings

These two sides met three times in 2017, when Rovers were a Championship side. They played twice during the regular season, and once in the Qualifiers. The first meeting was at KCOM Craven Park in March. Rovers won the game 28-14, with tries coming from Maurice Blair, James Greenwood, Kieren Moss and Jordan Abdull. The second clash took place in July at The MBi Shay, and was won by Halifax, who triumphed 28-6. The Fax tries were scored by Ben Johnston, Ben Heaton, Will Sharp and Michael Sio. The Robins’ solitary try that day was scored by Kieren Moss.

The most important clash between the sides in 2017 came in the Qualifiers. Rovers won this game 26-22, achieving a crucial victory on their way to promotion back to the Super League. Kieren Moss was on the scoresheet again, bagging a brace of tries on the day.

Hull KR vs Halifax Prediction: Comfortable Home Win

If you are looking for Hull KR vs Halifax betting tips for today, then it is worth noting that Fax have not looked like winning a game yet in the Qualifiers. On paper, they have no real chance of winning this game either, especially not if Rovers players like Craig Hall, Danny McGuire and Rob Mulhern play to their full potential. Rovers’ only real barrier to winning this game convincingly is their own mental state, and they must ensure that complacency does not creep in, like it did against Salford in the opening game of the Qualifiers. The prediction is that Rovers will win by at least 18 points.
