Toronto Wolfpack
Toulouse Olympique

Toronto Wolfpack welcome Toulouse Olympique to the Lamport Stadium this weekend, for what should be a great rugby league occasion. There is a big French-speaking community in Canada, and that might mean a little bit more support for Toulouse than they expect. It’s been a turbulent week for rugby league, with a new league structure for next season and beyond confirmed amidst some acrimony. Time to get back to the real action.

Toronto Wolfpack vs Toulouse Olympique Betting Tips: Form Guide

Wolfpack Struggling To Reach Next Level

Paul Rowley’s Toronto team have found life tougher than they perhaps expected in the Qualifiers this season. When tested by Super League teams, the Wolfpack have been second best. They pushed Hull Kingston Rovers hard at Lamport Stadium last month, but lost 28-22 in the end. Their last game was away at Salford Red Devils, and they again came out on the wrong side of the scoreline, this time losing 28-16. They mounted a strong second-half challenge to the Red Devils in that game, but could not, in the end, wrest control of the game away from the home side, who had had Jackson Hastings sent off.

The Wolfpack’s two wins in the Qualifiers have been against Championship opposition. They opened their Qualifiers campaign with a 14-0 away win at Halifax. That was a game where they had to graft hard to grind out the result. They also beat London Broncos in Canada, winning 34-22. Those results suggest that they should find Toulouse a pretty straightforward opposition on paper, but, as we all know, games of rugby league are not won on paper. Toulouse carry plenty of threat of their own.

Toulouse Trying Hard

Toulouse Olympique coach Sylvain Houles will have been pleased with the way that his team has approached the Qualifiers section of the season. The team from the Pink City might not be quite ready to reach Super League yet, but they have put in some good performances since the Super Eights split, and they are building for an eventual future in the top tier. Like Toronto, Toulouse have won two and lost two of their Qualifiers games so far. Unlike the Canadians, though, Toulouse have beaten a Super League team. After pushing Leeds Rhinos close in the first game of the Qualifiers, but losing 48-22 at Headingley, Toulouse won 28-6 at home to Halifax. They then welcome Widnes Vikings to the Pink City, and despatched the visitors 42-22. Their promotion hopes did suffer a blo last time out, though. The French side travelled to London to face the Broncos, and went home having been beaten 34-8.

This game will be a tough one for the French team, but they have plenty of quality in their ranks. French international fullback Mark Kheirallah and Cook Islands international stand-off Johnathan Ford have both been nominated for Championship Player of the Season.

Toronto Wolfpack vs Toulouse Olympique Preview: Recent Meetings

These two sides have played each other on two occasions so far in 2018, with both of those games being in the Championship, during the regular season. The first game was on April 2, and was held at Toulouse’s Stade Ernest Argeles. The Canadian side came out on top that day, but it was close. The Wolfpack won 24-22, with all their points being scored in the first half. Toulouse came back strongly after half-time, but could not quite score enough points to overtake the Canadians.

In the second game, at Toronto’s Lamport Stadium, on May 19, the Wolfpack emerged triumphant once again. There were plenty of points scored in this game, with Toronto winning 43-30. Ireland international winger Liam Kay scored a hat-trick of tries for the home team. Mark Kheirallah converted all five of Olympique’s tries, but to no avail.

Toronto Wolfpack vs Toulouse Olympique Prediction: Tight Home Win

If you’re looking for Toronto Wolfpack vs Toulouse Olympique betting tips for today, it is probably wise to back the Canadian team to win this game. Although Toulouse have pushed the Wolfpark hard twice this season, they have not been able to beat Rowley’s team, either home or away. This is a really important game for the Wolfpack too, who have been widely expected to win promotion to Super League this season. The pressure is really on, and the game will be tight and tense. Toronto tend to play a combative style of rugby league, especially in the forward pack, but Toulouse have plenty of beef and brawn of their own in the middle of the field. We predict a tight and close victory for the Wolfpack, who will win by between one and five points.
