Salford Red Devils vs Leeds Rhinos Betting Tips: Form Guide

The Devils Look For Redemption

While the Salford Red Devils’ season so far isn’t going quite as badly as the Widnes Vikings’ – they are, after all, in possession of double the points, even if in this instance that does only equate to one spot above the league’s lowest ranking – the last few months still weren’t great for the side.

Only a 26-12 victory in June to Widnes Vikings has prevented them from a losing streak that stretches all the way back to April. The Vikings are the same side that Leeds Rhinos managed to pick up their most recent and much-needed win against, and the margin by which they won is smaller. How much this reflects the abilities of both teams will certainly become much clearer after this contest.

Before that, their last win was actually a rather impressive 38-4 showing against Wakefield Trinity, which came off the back of another 30-12 win against Huddersfield Giants. However, this is where the wheels came off. They lost their final contest that month by no less than 50 points, going 10-60 against tournament leaders St Helens. After that, the losses just kept on coming: 30-0 to Wigan Warriors, 22-10 to Leigh Centurions, 26-12 to Catalans Dragons and – as if to stick the boot in at the end of May – Huddersfield Giants got their win back going 24-16. June and July were no kinder, telling similar tales, with that previously mentioned win against Widnes Vikings being the only sign of relief for the side.

They come into this match off the back of four consecutive clear losses: the most recent being a brutal 44-10 loss to Catalans Dragons. This rough season just seems to be getting rougher for the Red Devils, and they’ll need to show some fight that we’ve not seen in a while to take this win from Leeds.

Leeds Rhinos Hope To Avoid Another False Dawn

Despite not having the best of seasons overall this year, Leeds Rhinos will certainly be going into this contest with a renewed sense of confidence after their absolute thumping of Widnes  Vikings last Friday. However, before we get ahead of ourselves, let’s look a bit further back than that to when things weren’t looking quite as rosy.

June was a month of ups and downs for the side, with a 52-22 win against Leigh Centurions setting them up for a renewal in quality, before letting their fans down again with four consecutive losses. Their match with Huddersfield Giants went 18-25, they then lost by a single point in a 22-23 nerve-racking match against St Helens and again to Catalans Dragons 25-28, before finishing the month by easily getting bested by Wigan Warriors 46-8. Leeds will certainly be hoping to avoid another false start this time. On the plus side, they were very competitive and often impressive in performance, even if that doesn’t show up in the Super League standings.

July didn’t start much better, going 42-10 against Castleford Tigers. They recently drew against Wakefield Trinity 20-20, in another match many were hoping would spark a turnaround. Their most recent match against Widnes Vikings has hopefully been exactly that. We know that Widnes Vikings aren’t exactly setting the world on fire right now, so it’s not that Leeds Rhinos beat them but the manner in which they did so that inspires hope. Their performance was assured, confident and dominant and that’s exactly what their fans have been waiting for. Is it another false dawn? Only time will tell.

Salford Red Devils vs Leeds Rhinos Preview: Recent Meetings

Unfortunately for Salford Red Devils, things are also looking pretty bleak when it comes to recent meetings. However, considering the struggle Leeds have had of late, you could argue that the Rhino’s past dominance should have very little influence in Salford Red Devils vs Leeds Rhinos betting tips for today.

Nonetheless, the fact remains that over two years and seven games have passed since Salford last managed to pick up the win. Looking at more recent and thus more relevant meetings, they faced three times in 2017, with Leeds winning on all those occasions by 20-14, 50-24 and 44-2 respectively. Perhaps most importantly, Leeds and Salford last met in April this year, meaning their 20-0 victory there cannot be brushed away as a case of former glories.

Salford Red Devils vs Leeds Rhinos Prediction: Leeds Dominate Again

This Salford Red Devils vs Leeds Rhinos prediction should really come as no surprise. But before we get to that, let’s point out why this game might not be as clear-cut as many Salford Red Devils vs Leeds Rhinos match previews make it out to be. Let’s not forget that Leeds have had some disastrous runs this year and a one game victory against the team that’s at the bottom of the league by some margin is hardly a renaissance for the Rhinos, no matter how dominant that win was.

That being said, it does seem likely that they’ll win here. There’s always a possibility that they suffer another bad performance while Salford Red Devils bring their A-game, but more than likely it seems that the latter is going to hand them their second victory in a row. For Leeds Rhinos fans, this will hopefully spell the start of a new beginning in this struggle of a Super League season.
