St Mirren
Dundee

It’s a real relegation six-pointer in Paisley this weekend, when St Mirren welcome fellow Scottish Premiership strugglers Dundee to the Simple Digital Arena. These two sides occupy the bottom two places in the league table, with Dee a point ahead of the rock-bottom Buddies. Both sides are desperate for a victory, with the points desperately needed if they are to catch Hamilton Academical and avoid relegation or a play-off.

St Mirren vs Dundee Betting Tips: Form Guide

Buddies Need To Battle For Points

St Mirren boss Oran Kearney was left fuming with his striker Simeon Jackson on Wednesday evening, as the Canadian international decided to take a penalty using the ‘Panenka’ method. It ended in embarrassing failure, with the ball rolling harmlessly against the St Johnstone goalkeeper. Kearney has publicly questioned what was going through the player’s mind at this stage of the season when his team are stuck in a relegation battle. It will be interesting to see if Jackson is selected for this game or not.

The Buddies have endured a difficult campaign, and sit at the bottom of the Scottish Premiership. There have been moments were hope seems to have almost flickered into life, though, like the 2-2 draw with Aberdeen at Pittodrie last month, where the Saints led twice but still failed to win the game. Their last win came two games ago against Livingston, when they won 1-0 at home to the West Lothian side. Since then, the Buddies have been beaten by Kilmarnock at home and St Johnstone away, both by a 1-0 scoreline. Those narrow results suggest the Saints are not too far away from being a winning side, but time is running out now.

Dundee Desperate For Points

Dundee boss Jim McIntyre told the Scottish press this week that he expects his players to be nervous heading into this six-pointer in Paisley. The boss does not see that as a bad thing, though, and wants his players to channel their energy into producing their best possible performance. Dee have lost their four games. They have faced both Edinburgh clubs and both sides of the Old Firm in those four games, though.

McIntyre will have to do without English centre back Andrew Davies, who is out for the rest of the season with a broken foot. The Englishman is yet to play for the Dark Blues after signing in January, having re-injured his foot in a practice match. McIntyre can call on another English player, though, with striker Andrew Nelson fit again. The forward had become a big hit with fans after joining the club in January, scoring four goals, but hurt his heel and aggravated it celebrating his goal against Livingston in February. He is back in full training and could play in Paisley this weekend.

St Mirren vs Dundee Preview: Recent Meetings

These two sides have met on two previous occasions this season. Both of those games have been in the Scottish Premiership. Dundee have failed to win on both occasions. The first game was at the Buddies’ Simple Digital Arena on August 4. The home side emerged victorious from the encounter, winning 2-1. Danny Mullen opened the scoring for St Mirren in the eighth minute, only for Elton Ngwatala to equalise for the Dark Blues just four minutes later. The scores remained level until the 81st minute, when Mullen struck his second to seal the victory for the Saints.

The second game was at Dens Park in Dundee on November 10. Simeon Jackson opened the scoring from the penalty spot for St Mirren that day, netting in the 21st minute. Dundee equalised before half-time, though, with veteran striker Kenny Miller equalising in the 34th minute. The game finished 1-1.

St Mirren vs Dundee Prediction: Narrow Home Win

If you’re looking for St Mirren vs Dundee Betting Tips for today, our prediction for this game is that it will end with a 1-0 victory for the home side. We are not expecting a classic game, full of thrilling attacking play and incident. This is going to be a battle between two sides who are enduring tough top-flight seasons. Reputations and possibly jobs are on the line here, so it is likely to be a tense, ugly game, and the result may be determined by an error rather than a piece of skill or quality play. If St Mirren are awarded a penalty it will be interesting to see if Simeon Jackson steps up to take it after his miss against St Johnstone. He has already scored once this season from the penalty spot against Dundee.
