St Mirren
Hibernian

St Mirren welcome Hibernian to the Simple Digital Arena in Paisley on Saturday for Scottish Premiership game that the home side really need to win. League points have been in short supply in Paisley so far in 2018/19, despite a recent change of manager. Hibs, for their part, will want to recover quickly from the disappointment of losing to Aberdeen in the League Cup on penalties on Tuesday evening.

St Mirren vs Hibernian Betting Tips: Form Guide

St Mirren Need New Hope

St Mirren have endured a pretty torrid start to the 2018/19 campaign, after winning promotion from the Scottish Championship last season. They have already changed manager, with Alan Stubbs being replaced by Ulsterman Oran Kearney. Kearney’s first game in charge was at home to Celtic, and he inspired his team to fight for a creditable 0-0 draw with the Hoops. That was English defender Anton Ferdinand’s first game for the club, and he has been a worthwhile acquisition who can stiffen up the Saints’ defence. The Buddies could not build on that draw with Celtic, though, as they lost last weekend, getting beaten 3-0 away at Hamilton Academical.

Kearney has been checking out some possible reinforcements this week too, with Ivorian forward Cedric Gondo, formerly with Fiorentina, training with the Saints this week. The Buddies definitely something to help them, as they have now gone six games in all competitions without a victory. Their last win was the 2-1 opening day home league win against Dundee, which now seems a very long time ago indeed.

They will be hard-pressed to beat Hibs, who have been building some decent form in recent weeks.

Hibs Looking To Bounce Back From Cup Exit

Hibernian’s recent winning run came to an end on Tuesday evening at Easter Road, when Neil Lennon’s team were knocked out of the Scottish League Cup by Aberdeen. The Dons needed penalties to finally overcome the Leith side, though, with the game ending 0-0 after extra-time. The game was a tight, tense and exciting occasion, though, and it may have taken its toll on some of the Hibs team physically and mentally.

In their last two league games, Lennon’s men have scored six goals, and conceded two. The first of those games was at home to Kilmarnock, a team who are nobody’s mugs right now. Hibs won 3-2, and will have been relieved to come away with the three points from a testing encounter. Next up for the Edinburgh side was a trip to struggling Dundee, where they won 3-0. That result is what they will be looking to replicate against a St Mirren side who have found life almost as tough as Dundee this season.

Lennon will know that complacency is his team’s enemy in Paisley, though. The Saints showed against Celtic that they are no pushovers. Hibs will need to play well to come away with a win.

St Mirren vs Hibernian Preview: Recent Meetings

The last time these two sides played each other in a league match was in the 2016/17 season, when both clubs were in the Championship. They played each other four times that season, with St Mirren winning one, and Hibs winning two, and there being one draw.

The last game of the 2016/17 season, when the two sides faced each other, was perhaps the most significant match out of the four league games the two sides played. The game at Easter Road ended 1-1, which secured St Mirren’s Championship status for another season. Grant Holt put Hibs, who by that stage had been confirmed as league champions in Scotland’s second tier, into the lead on 49 minutes. Rory struck an equaliser for the Buddies on the hour mark, and the Paisley side were able to hang on, and stay in the Championship. They would, of course, win promotion to the Premiership in 2017/18.

St Mirren vs Hibernian Prediction: Narrow Away Win

If you are looking for St Mirren vs Hibernian betting tips for today, then our prediction for this game is that Hibs will win 1-0. Oran Kearney is working hard to improve his Saints team, but they are a long way from being competitive as a Premier League side. We suspect that Hibs will prove to be just too strong for the Buddies, who could well find themselves losing to a late goal, possibly from the penalty spot.
