Toulouse vs Monaco - Free Betting Tips

Toulouse FC
AS Monaco

Last season’s runners-up Monaco face a difficult Ligue 1 challenge this weekend with a trip to Toulouse, who have put an opening-day hammering at Marseille behind them to win three on the bounce. While the majority of Toulouse vs Monaco betting tips will back the visitors to win, they’ve shown very little sign of being ready to run the leaders close again this season, and with the home side in form and riding on a wave of confidence, there’s every reason to think things could get worse before they get better.

It’s rare to see a home side as long-odds underdogs when they’re facing a side five points behind them in the league, but no doubt Monaco’s greater resources are playing a part here. Those resources haven’t helped them in the last three games, where they took a single point – so with Toulouse at 39/20 with 888sport to win here, we’d back them to pick up all three here. On the first scorer market, you can get 6/1 (BetBright) on Max Gradel to draw first blood here, and his pace and power are likely to discomfort a leaky Monaco backline. If you’re looking for a correct score bet, then there’s value in the 9/1 NetBet are offering for Tefece to emerge with a 1-0 win in what could be a nervy encounter.

Toulouse vs Monaco Betting Tips: Form Guide

Toulouse Start Tou-win

With just nine wins last season, Toulouse dropped into the bottom three of Ligue 1, and faced a playoff with Ajaccio for the right to play top-flight football this season. A one-sided, two-legged tie saw the Ligue 1 side escape the drop, but manager Alain Casanova must have feared the worst when, on the first weekend of the new season, his side were pulled apart by Marseille. 4-0 was the final score, and there was little evidence to suggest things were about to get any better – another long campaign of fighting against the drop awaits?

Well, perhaps not. In the last three games, Tefece have won one-third of the total number that they managed all of last season. A tough home fixture with Bordeaux was won due to goals late in the first half by Aaron Leya and, midway through the second half, Matthieu Dossevi. In the following game, at home to Nimes, they found it harder still. The newly promoted side – at that point sitting on two wins from two games – fought for their lives, and Gradel had a first-half penalty saved. With ten minutes to go, however, another spot kick was awarded and Gradel, showing admirable nervelessness, stepped up to put it away.

A fortnight ago, the fixture calendar took them to Guingamp. The hosts, struggling for form, were blown away by an Gradel goal on two minutes and another, ten minutes later, by his Ivoirien compatriot Ibrahima Sangare. But for the 26th-minute dismissal of Jeanclair Todibo for a second bookable offence, it could have got messier for the hosts. However, despite a consolation on the stroke of half time from Marcus Thuram (son of Lilian), the visitors held on for the win, justifying our Toulouse vs Monaco betting tips for today.

ASM Start Strongly and Fall Off Fast

The inevitable finally happened this summer when Thomas Lemar, whose performances on the wing were instrumental in the 2017 title win, departed the club for an opportunity in a bigger league with Atletico Madrid. With fellow winger Rachid Ghezzal also leaving, the jury is out on whether the players who have arrived will do much to fill the spaces left. Some of the new recruits are definitely canny acquisitions for the future, but Monaco are looking a bit rubbish right now.

Things started promisingly enough. A trip to Nantes saw Leonardo Jardim’s side score three second-half goals to leave their hosts in the dust, a late and irrelevant consolation merely narrowing the gap to 3-1. Since then, it’s not been great. The less said about a soporific 0-0 draw at home to Lille the better, except that it was followed by a trip to Bordeaux, whose winger Francois Kamano scored twice to secure the three points. It could have been worse, as Diego Benaglio conceded a late penalty, but redeemed himself by saving Samuel Kalu’s spot kick.

Last time out, Monaco hit back from conceding on the stroke of half time at home to Marseille to build a 2-1 lead through Tielemans and Falcao. They held that lead going into the last fifteen minutes. However, two late goals saw the visitors leave Stade Louis II with III points, and concerns over the defensive concentration will be a primary focus of Toulouse vs Monaco match previews this week.

Toulouse vs Monaco Preview: Recent Meetings

Games between these teams last season were worth the entrance fee, as their two league meetings featured eleven goals in all. The encounter at Toulouse’s Stadium Municipal saw Monaco’s chase for the title suffer a setback as the sides shared six goals equally. Goals from Rony Lopes (2) and Stevan Jovetic saw the visitors into a 3-1 lead, but late strikes from Alain Delort and Yaya Sanogo – the latter just three minutes from time – ensured a point for the strugglers.

Earlier in the season, in Monte Carlo, it was the visitors who couldn’t make a lead stick. Twice they went ahead, through Zinedine Machach and Delort, and twice Monaco hit back, with Jemerson and Falcao getting the goals. Twenty minutes from the end, a Kamil Glik goal allowed the hosts to take the lead for the first time, and ASM would hold out to finish the game as 3-2 winners.

Toulouse vs Monaco Prediction: Surprise Home Win

At the end of the season last May, Monaco sat in second place in Ligue 1 while Toulouse were 18th – third from bottom. There is every chance that the same could happen this season. Even with the departures of significant players, the side from the principality have a solid squad and are managed by Jardim, a name mentioned every time a top European job becomes vacant. They’ll be fine.

Right now, though, it’s evident that last season’s runners-up are not the balanced side they were. If you took Neymar from PSG, or Memphis Depay out of the Lyon line-up, those sides would be instantly less of a threat. Losing Lemar has shaken Monaco and they are vulnerable right now. After three wins on the trot, Toulouse are unrecognisable from the team that pinballed from failure to failure last season. For that reason, we’re going to make a Toulouse vs Monaco prediction of a home win, almost certainly a narrow one, and for the sides’ current form to continue as it is right now.
