Wakefield Trinity vs Catalans Dragons Betting Tips: Form Guide

Trinity Trying To Reach Top Four

Chris Chester’s Wakefield Trinity side currently sit in sixth place in the Super League table, and are still harbouring ambitions of a top-four finish. They have secured a place in the top eight for the second successive season, and have thus removed the stress of possible relegation from their campaign. They have been scoring plenty of points over the last month or so, with June having seen them register at least 30 points in each of their four matches. The defence has been less impressive, however, and Trinity have also conceded at least 16 points in all of their matches in June.

Last time out, Trinity lost narrowly at St Helens, with the table-topping team beating the West Yorkshire outfit 34-30. Trinity were trailing 6-20 at half-time, but produced a stunning second-half comeback, scoring 20 points without reply to take the lead. But the Saints produced a fight back of their own, scoring three tries in the last 20 minutes to take the victory. While Trinity will take confidence from the manner of their performance, they have narrowly lost too many games to Super League’s better sides this season. A win over Catalans would be very handy indeed.

Dragons Finding Value In Drinkwater

Catalans Dragons were the favourites for relegation in the eyes of many Super League spectators a few weeks back. The Dragons looked dispirited and disorganised, and many felt that Steve McNamara’s spell at the club as coach was destined to end in disaster. Things have changed in recent weeks, though, with the Dragons picking up seven wins from their last eight games. Their only defeat in that eight-game spell was against Huddersfield Giants, on June 15. The Perpignan outfit lost that match by a single point, with the final score being 26-25 to the Giants.

A big part of that revival has been Josh Drinkwater. The Australian halfback signed for Catalans in late April, after Luke Walsh retired from the game. Drinkwater, a former Manly junior, was playing in the New South Wales  Cup with Western Suburbs Magpies before the Catalans snapped him up. The difference he has made can be seen in the Dragons’ results. He has made 11 try assists and scored six tries since he joined, and provided invaluable leadership when it comes to leading the team around the park. If you’re looking for Wakefield Trinity vs Catalans Dragons Betting Tips for today, keep an eye on Drinkwater.

Wakefield Trinity vs Catalans Dragons Preview: Recent Meetings

The last time these two sides met was in Super League back in February, in round three of Super League. That was back when Catalans were struggling, and Wakefield were making the pace as early season contenders. Wakefield won the game at Stade Gilbert Brutus in Perpignan by 16 points to 14. That meant that Trinity maintained their 100% start to the season, and picked up a valuable away win in the South of France, where it can often be tough for visiting teams.

Reece Lyne and Tom Johnstone scored first-half tries for Wakefield, who were actually down 10-8 at the interval. They rallied in the game’s second stanza, though, with David Fifita crossing the whitewash for their third try. Liam Finn converted that try and added a penalty kick to seal the victory, with a try from Lewis Tierney proving to be just a consolation for the home side.

Wakefield Trinity vs Catalans Dragons Prediction: Narrow Home Win

This clash in West Yorkshire on Saturday evening should be a cracker of a game. Both teams have been in good form in recent weeks, and are scoring plenty of points. The crunch could come down, as it so often does in rugby league, as to which duo of halfbacks performs better. With Liam Finn and Jacob Miller at six and seven for Trinity, Josh Drinkwater and Samisoni Langi will need to be on top of their game if they want to steer the visitors to victory.

The prediction is that Trinity will win the game, but it will be a close one. The margin of victory is likely to be between one and 10 points, and we may well see a deciding drop goal.
