Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Liverpool Betting Tips: Form Guide

Wolves Ready For The Reds

Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo has praised Liverpool this week, and has asserted that he and his team are ready for another challenging match against the Reds. The West Midlands side currently sit in a respectable ninth place in the Premier League table, after being promoted last season. They have won just once in their last four games, though, and head into this matc on the back of a 2-0 home defeat to Crystal Palace last week.

Wolves have not won an FA Cup game since 2010/11, when they beat Doncaster Rovers in a third round replay. That is a run of six games in the competition without a win, with four of those games ending in defeat and there being two draws.

Wolves could be boosted by the return of forward Diogo Jota, who has returned to training. He has missed the last four games and is set to be assessed by the Wolves medical staff ahead of the game. Romain Saiss limped off in the recent 2-0 defeat to Crystal Palace, but his knee problem has eased and he should be available to face the Reds. Morgan Gibbs-Whyte is also in contention for a starting spot.

Reds Set To Rotate Selection

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool team finally lost a game last Thursday, when Manchester City beat them 2-1 at the Etihad Stadium. That was their first defeat of the Premier League season, and opened up the title race once again.

The last time the Reds were knocked out at this stage of the FA Cup was back in the 2010/11 season, when they were beaten 1-0 by old rivals Manchester United. One stat which is worth noting is that the Reds have been knocked out of the Cup in five of the last seven ties against Premier League opposition.

Klopp is expected to rotate his squad after a demanding run of 11 games in six weeks, and rest some key players to keep them fresh for the Premier League campaign. Midfielders Naby Keita and Adam Lallana are expected to come into the side, after being unused subs in the league match against Manchester City. Fabinho played for just half an hour against City, and is likely to start against Wolves. Other players who might feature are Daniel Sturridge, Xherdan Shaqiri and possibly Alberto Moreno. Nathaniel Clyne left Anfield earlier this week to join Bournemouth on loan.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Liverpool Preview: Recent Meetings

These two teams are very familiar with each other, having played on 102 previous occasions in history. Liverpool have won 50 of those games, Wolves have won on 35 occasions and there have been 17 draws.

The two teams most recently met in the FA Cup in January 2017, when Wolves were in the Championship. The game was a fourth round tie at Anfield, and the away side ended up causing an upset. Wolves won 2-1, with Richard Steadman opening the scoring after just a minute. Andi Weimann added a second four minutes before half-time. Divock Origi pulled one back for the Reds in the closing minutes of the match.

The most recent meeting between the teams was in the Premier League this season. They met at Molineux last month, with Liverpool winning the game 2-0. Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk scored the goals for the Reds.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Liverpool Prediction: Narrow Away Win

If you are looking for Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Liverpool betting tips for today, then our prediction for this game is the Reds will win a close game 2-1. It will be a close and entertaining game, we suspect. Klopp may rotate his side for the match in order to rest key players, and that might disrupt the Reds’ flow a little bit. In the end, though, the Merseysiders will just about edge it, and may well be hanging on by the end. The game might be a bit of a thriller for the TV viewers to enjoy.
